  • Patent number: 6328689
Abstract: A lung constriction device and method provide lung air leak suppression or lung volume reduction. The lung constriction device includes a jacket of flexible material. The jacket is configured to cover at least a portion of a lung. The jacket is further configured to receive the lung portion as it is drawn therein. The jacket may be expandable and held in an expanded condition as the lung tissue is drawn into the jacket. Thereafter, the jacket is permitted to collapse about the lung portion to constrict the lung portion. The jacket may alternatively be nonexpandable. As the lung tissue is drawn into the jacket, it will collapse. Once disposed in the jacket, the jacket constricts the lung tissue to provide leakage suppression or lung volume reduction. The jacket may further be severable so that after the lung portion is drawn into the jacket, the jacket may be severed to section the lung portion.

  • Patent number: 5628774
Abstract: A lead for implantation in a human body exhibits improved combined biodegradation, blood surface compatibility, wear and flexibility characteristics. The lead includes at least one electrode and at least one connector connecting the electrode to a connector at the proximal end of the lead. An outer insulation surrounds the at least one conductor, and includes a first insulation formed of silicone encircling the at least one conductor, and a second insulation formed from polyurethane encircling the silicone rubber insulation.

  • Patent number: 5476493
Abstract: A movable self-locking suture sleeve which can be securely positioned on the lead body of a pacing lead. The self-locking suture sleeve includes first and second cooperative rigid elements interconnected by a flexible tubing element. The tubing element is constructed from a woven mesh designed to constrict when stretched. A resilient element or spring is interposed between the first and second cooperative rigid elements, tending to force the cooperative rigid elements axially apart. Once the suture sleeve is moved into position, a self-locking feature allows the suture sleeve to secure itself to the lead body.

  • Patent number: 5318572
Abstract: A pacing lead having a porous electrode of platinum-iridium with recessed areas or grooves formed into the surface. The grooves allow for acute electrode stabilization as a result of clot formation and endocardial tissue capture during insertion and immediate immobilization upon implant. At least one layer of a porous coating of 20-200 micron diameter spherical particles are deposited on the surface of the base electrode to obtain a porous macrostructure for promoting chronic tissue ingrowth. Additionally, a microstructure surface coating is applied to increase the active surface area and enhance electrical efficiency by lowering electrochemical polarization and increasing electrical capacitance.
