  • Publication number: 20230072353
Abstract: Systems, apparatuses and methods provides for technology that applies, with a printhead of a printing system, ink to a substrate as the substrate remains stationary and the printhead moves across the substrate. The technology determines, with a distance encoder, a distance that the printhead has moved, and controls application of the ink from the printhead to the substrate based on the distance.

  • Publication number: 20220193832
Abstract: Disclosed are methods and coatings for protecting the surface of a non-metallic composite part, comprising applying a protective layer to an exposed surface of the non-metallic composite part, the protective layer comprising: (a) a multilayer having at least a co-cured layer applied to the surface of the non-metallic part and laser-sensitive layer applied to a surface of the co-cured layer, wherein the laser-sensitive layer is selected from a reflective layer, an optical sensor layer or a layer having both reflective and optical sensor properties; or (b) a co-cured coating which comprises a laser-sensitive material incorporated therein to form a laser-sensitive co-cured layer applied to a surface of the non-metallic composite part, wherein the laser-sensitive material is selected from a reflective material, an optical sensor material or a combination thereof, such that the non-metallic composite part will be protected from damage during subsequent laser ablation to remove an outer coating.

  • Patent number: 9431142
Abstract: Methods include applying an electric charge to a coating material that includes carbon nanotubes and a carrier, such as paint, and depositing the electrically charged coating material to a substrate. In some methods, the applying includes utilizing an electrostatic sprayer. In some methods, the substrate is isolated from ground during the depositing. In some methods, the substrate is an insulator. Some methods result in regions of carbon nanotubes that are substantially longitudinally aligned after the depositing. Coated substrates may include a coating with carbon nanotubes that are substantially longitudinally aligned and in some examples that are arranged in a zig-zag pattern. Aircraft, spacecraft, land vehicles, marine vehicles, wind turbines, and apparatuses that may be susceptible to lightning strikes or other types of electromagnetic effects and that include a coated substrate also are disclosed.

  • Patent number: 7628082
Abstract: A microfluidic device for assessing properties of a fluid. The device utilizes a microtube capable of different vibration modes for promoting certain performance and/or structural aspects of the device. The microtube is supported by a base so as to be spaced apart from a substrate surface. The microtube has a peripheral portion surrounding the base, arms supporting the peripheral portion from the base, and a continuous internal microchannel having at least first and second microchannel portions. Each microchannel portion defines a separate flow route, and each flow route originates at the base, continues through a portion of the peripheral portion, and returns to the base. The first and second microchannel portions are fluidically connected to inlet and outlet ports, respectively, within the base. Vibration of the microtube is induced and sensed by driving and sensing elements. Fluid properties are determined from outputs of the sensing elements.
