The ratio of styrene:(meth)acrylate groups is between 0.5:1 and 4:1, preferably between 1.5:1 and 3:1. The vinylic groups show low polarity. The Mw is below 10,000. The oil length is above 45%. The coating composition can be water borne or solvent borne. The alkyd according to the invention allows formulation of solvent borne coatings a volatile organic content below 300 g/l.
