  • Patent number: 7011195
Abstract: An improved suitcase base and an improved pulling handle for use in a soft-sided suitcase and a hard-sided suitcase, giving the luggage, easy pulling characteristics. The base is nearly symmetrical in shape, with a V-shaped bottom wall forming an obtuse angle, which creates good ground clearance for the suitcase bottom under all conditions of towing over flat or uneven surfaces. Provision is made for securely latching the pulling handle while stored, and for quick, easy release from storage for pulling handle deployment. A duffle bag luggage carrier that incorporates the improved base, is also described. The improved base and quick-release pulling handle are easily adaptable to different styled soft-sided and hard-sided suitcases, and for non-suitcase luggage carriers.

  • Patent number: 6446988
Abstract: An easily pulled, rolling cooler for storing refrigerables which can be manually towed by pulling a handle that is designed to resist torsion. The cooler has two wheels that are located directly under the cooler center of gravity to minimize pulling strain for the user. Provision is made for the handle to be folded down and stored on the cooler lid when not being used for towing. The cooler bottom is V-shaped, providing good ground clearance for the back end of the cooler when being towed over uneven ground. The cooler is light weight, compact and easily fitted in a car trunk or in a van for travel to picnics.

  • Patent number: 6148971
Abstract: An easily pullable suitcase which can be towed on all four wheels or on two main wheels with comfort using an attached pulling handle. The handle can be free pivoting to pull the suitcase on four wheels, or can be rigidly fixed in a position that eases lifting the suitcase front end and pulling the suitcase on the two main wheels. The two main wheels are located with their axle under the suitcase center of gravity so that, when pulled on the main wheels, the suitcase weight is carried by the wheels, causing minimum pressure on the hand of a pulling person. The bottom of the suitcase is V-shaped to allow clearance for the bottom rear end when the front end of the suitcase is lifted upwards and pulled on two main wheels.

  • Patent number: 5489107
Abstract: A device for transporting a suitcase is provided including a removeable wheel assembly and two supporting brackets which are permanently attached integral with the suitcase. The wheel assembly includes a handle which is welded to the assembly axle and is used to install the wheel assembly on the brackets by positioning the axle across the brackets, parallel to the bottom surface of the suitcase, then rotating the handle and axle through an angle until the axle and handle are retained by the brackets. The suitcase may then be easily transported over uneven surfaces on the two large wheels provided by the device. An alternate embodiment provides a plastic handle that may be removed for convenient storage.

  • Patent number: 5394965
Abstract: The invention is an attachable pull handle for suitcases which are mounted on rollers. A pull handle is encased in a rectangular plastic housing with its hand grip portion protruding out. The housing is intended to be screwed to the top side of a suitcase. The pull handle is a rectangular cross-section rod with a hand grip at one end and two pins protruding 90 degrees to its axis at its other end. The housing cover includes a channel, allowing the pull handle rod to slide longitudinally inside the housing. A manually adjustable bridge stop is located about midway along the housing length, so that the pull handle may be used with only half its length extended, providing a rigid handle for pulling a suitcase. The pull handle can also be used fully extended and pivoted on the end of the housing at any comfortable angle for pulling a suitcase.

  • Patent number: 5286047
Abstract: A transport device is provided that includes a wheel assembly having a round axle that supports a pair of wheels and a handle and that has at least two separated flattened portions. The flattened portions each have a diametrical dimension smaller than the axle diameter in one direction only. At least two first wall members extend away from a surface and are positioned to accept the flattened portions of the axle. Each wall member terminates in a first edge and defines a first slot therein. One end of each slot has an opening just large enough to pass one of the flattened portions of the axle but not large enough to pass the full diameter of the axle. The slots of each wall member are aligned for jointly holding the axle. At least one second wall member is included that extends away from the surface and terminates in a second edge. The second wall member defines a second slot therein for accepting and retaining a portion of the handle when the handle is positioned parallel to the surface.

  • Patent number: 5188381
Abstract: This is a device for detachably attaching large wheels to the bottom of a suitcase. The wheels are connected together by a common axle. A bracket is molded or attached to the bottom of the suitcase and the bracket has axle receiving slots formed therein. A lever is pivotally mounted on the bracket, and when the axle of the wheels is inserted in the axle receiving slots, the lever is pivoted in a direction which closes off the entrance to the slot and locks the axis in the slot. A device is provided for pivoting the lever in a direction which allows the axle to be removed from the slot.

  • Patent number: 4900043
Abstract: An axle wheel assembly is removably attached to the base of a suitcase by attaching a pair of brackets to opposite sides of the base of the suitcase. The upper edge of each bracket is provided with a downwardly extending slot. A pivotally mounted slot entrance cover is mounted on the bracket and is pivotal in one direction to cover the entrance to the slot to prevent the axle of the axle wheel assembly from falling out of the slot once the axle is inserted in the slot, and pivotal in another direction to open the entrance to the slot to permit the removal of the axle from the slot. The length of the axle is larger than the width of the suitcase so wheels of any size can be secured to the ends of the axle.
