  • Patent number: 8729289
Abstract: A method for performing a flying grade switch in an ester production process, which preferably is operated in semi-continuous mode, maximizes plant equipment productivity while minimizing product cross-contamination. Mixed ester products of the process containing a C9-C11 alkyl or isodecyl benzoate together with a higher molecular weight di-alkyl phthalate or cyclohexanoate, bring performance advantages such as improved permanence in plasticized PVC articles or improved processability in manufacturing these articles.

  • Patent number: 8653184
Abstract: Esters of cyclohexane polycarboxylic acids are used as plasticisers for polyvinyl chloride to enable products with comparable mechanical properties to be obtained using less polyvinyl chloride. Use of these esters also produces formulations with increased stability to ultra-violet light, improved low temperature properties, lower viscosity and improved processability as well as reduced smoke on burning. The esters of cyclohexane polycarboxylic acids may be used alone or in admixture with other plasticisers when the esters of cyclohexane polycarboxylic acids may act as viscosity depressants. Fast fusing plasticisers may also be included. The formulations and processes of making these formulations are particularly useful in the production of a range of goods from semi-rigid to highly flexible materials and are particularly useful in the production of medical materials, toys, and food contact articles.

  • Publication number: 20110313090
Abstract: An improved method for producing di-isotridecylphthalate (DTDP) is disclosed by esterification using a tetra-alkyl titanate catalyst made from preferably primary alcohols having at least 4 and preferably up to but not more than 10 carbon atoms. In the esterification process, compared to using tetra-isopropyl titanate catalyst, less of the alcohol from the catalyst contributes to the environmental burden associated with discarding the waste water byproduct, and more is incorporated into the prime DTDP product.

  • Publication number: 20100048778
Abstract: C9 to C11 alkyl benzoates are used as plasticisers for polyvinyl chloride in particular in combination with plasticisers such as di-2-ethyl hexyl phthalate, diisononyl phthalate, di-2-propyl heptyl phthalate, diisodecyl phthalate or di-2-ethyl hexyl terephthalate. The use of the C9 to C11 alkyl benzoates provides low viscosity low volatility plasticisers, which are fast fusing with lower hot bench gelation temperature and which can be used to reduce the staining problems associated with use of di-2-ethyl hexyl phthalate and diisononyl phthalate. The low viscosity of the C9 to C11 alkyl benzoates allows the formulation of solvent free flexible PVC formulations meeting stringent VOC limitations.
