    Abstract: The invention is characterized in that it comprises a plurality of impedances (R2, C3, R4, R5) and at least one operational amplifier (51, 52), and means (53) for connecting a resistive sensor (Rs) to the electronic circuit (50) such that, once the resistive sensor has been connected to the electronic circuit, a resulting electronic circuit is obtained that consists of the electronic circuit and the resistive sensor connected thereto, the input impedance (Zinp) of which corresponds to that of a variable capacitance as a function of the resistive sensor (Rs). A capacitative input impedance that can very as a function of a sensor is obtained.

    Abstract: An electricity meter includes an input circuit operable to generate signals representative of a line voltage waveform and a line current waveform. A processing circuit is connected to the input circuit and is operable to generate energy consumption data based on the input signals. A communications circuit is also connected to the processing circuit. The communications circuit includes an optical receiver having a single photo-transistor, a single capacitor and two resistors. The photo-transistor is operable to act as a switching device that allows varying amounts of current to pass in association with received light pulses. This action allows light signals received by the photo-transistor to be converted into electrical signals. The electrical signals are passed across the first resistor. These electrical signals are differentiated by the capacitor and the second resistor to filter out low frequency signals created by ambient light.

The electricity meter includes a power consumption metering system for measuring the amount of power consumed from the service line, a peripheral device providing a non-critical function, a power converter, and a load management system. The power converter provides an unregulated voltage output at the terminals of a capacitor for powering the metering system. The load management system selectively couples and decouples the peripheral device from the power converter. The load management system senses the unregulated voltage to determine whether to couple or decouple the peripheral device. A load management system for an electricity meter and a method of managing the loads on the power system of an electricity meter are also disclosed.

The A/D converter is operable to receive a voltage input signal and generate a digital output signal having a digital value representative of the magnitude of the voltage input signal. The impedance circuit includes at least first and second alternative impedance values and a switch operable to cause the impedance circuit to have a select one of the first impedance value and the second impedance value. The impedance circuit is configured to receive a current signal to be digitized, the impedance circuit generating an output voltage signal representative of the current signal and having a magnitude dependent on the select one of the first impedance value and the second impedance value. The output voltage signal of the impedance circuit is then provided as the voltage input signal of the A/D converter.

The trapped field magnet is formed of a plurality of relatively small, single-grain superconductive elements. Optimal shaped of these elements is in a regular truncated cone wherein the half cone angle is 55.degree., and the optimal orientation of each single-grain superconducting elements is an angle of .phi..sub.m with respect to the axis perpendicular to the upper and lower surface of the element, wherein the .phi..sub.m =3 sin.theta.cos.theta./(3 cos.sup.2 .theta.0-1) and .theta. determines the location of the element (FIG. 3a).
