In the preferred embodiment, the dendrimers are in the form of dendrimer nanoparticles comprising poly(amidoamine) (PAMAM) hydroxyl-terminated dendrimers covalently linked to at least one therapeutic, prophylactic or diagnostic agent for treatment of one or more symptoms of necrotizing enterocolitis.
