The apparatus can receive a request to perform a machine-learning operation. The apparatus can determine a plurality of sequences of shaders that are capable of performing the machine-learning operation. The apparatus can determine a cost for each sequence of the plurality of sequences of shaders based on a cost function associated with each shader. The apparatus can execute a selected sequence of shaders of the plurality of sequences of shaders having a lowest cost.
