  • Patent number: 7086619
Abstract: The invention relates to a process and an apparatus for comminuting particles. The apparatus comprises at least one tube for collecting a given amount of particles, the particles forming a plug inside the tube. The apparatus further comprises at least one pressure pulse unit for generating pressure pulses, in which context the plug, subjected to a pressure pulse, is propelled from an exit aperture of the tube to hit a baffle located downstream of the tube and comprising apertures. Finally, the apparatus comprises a collection chamber following on to the baffle, in which the particles, comminuted by the impact against the baffle and passing through the apertures, are collected.

  • Patent number: 7029584
Abstract: A device for filtering liquids comprising two shafts which are parallel to each other or at an acute angle wherein each shaft carries a stack of disks that extend perpendicularly to the shaft axis and are rotated thereby. The disks of one stack are engaged in the intermediate spaces of an adjacent disk stack and at least one of the shafts is driven. At least one of the shafts is hollow and is provided with bores and some of the disks have channels therein which are fluidly connected to the inside of their respect hollow shaft. A support ring is oversized in relation to the shaft so that a channel is formed between the inner surface of the support ring and the outer surface of the shaft and this channel extends over at least part of the length of the shaft.

  • Patent number: 6958120
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for producing a membrane module, comprising a plurality of bar-shaped ceramic filter elements disposed parallel to each other and stretched on the ends of the bay by covers, which extend perpendicular to said bars. Said modules also comprise sealing elements provided in-between the ends of the bars in addition to holes in the covers. The invention is characterized by the following features: initially, the individual sealing element is partially produced by finishing the inner hole thereof intended for surrounding the end of the bar to its final size while the outer surface of the sealing element remains unprocessed so that a sealing blank is formed; the sealing blank is then inserted into a support having outer dimensions in the insertion area corresponding to the mean outer dimensions of all filter elements or a plurality of filter elements.

  • Patent number: 6749747
Abstract: The invention relates to a membrane module in order to filter media which are capable of flowing. Said module incorporates an integrated heat exchanger. According to the invention, the membrane module has the following characteristics: a plurality of rod-shaped, porous, ceramic filter elements (1) (ceramic rods); the ceramic rods (1) are provided with continuous bores (1.1) located parallel to an axis; the ceramic rods are arranged parallel to each other and a lid (3, 4) covers the end thereof: the ceramic rods (1) are sealed at their circumferences against the lid (3, 4); a lid (3) located at one of the membrane modules is provided with an inlet (2.1) for the medium to be treated and a lid (4) located at the other end is provided with an outlet (2.

  • Patent number: 6635180
Abstract: The invention relates to a process for the purification and/or treatment of suspensions, which include at least one or more precious metals and/or rare earths or other elements in the form of a precipitate or solid and/or also in dissolved form, which includes the following steps: concentrating or thickening the precipitate or solid in the suspension by removal of the liquid phase by means of a membrane filter apparatus, whereby dissolved impurities and/or precious materials are discharged with filtrate; washing of the concentrated or thickened suspension by addition of a wash liquid and removal of filtrate by means of the membrane filter apparatus, whereby the concentration or thickening of the solids in the suspension does not or changes only slightly during washing and the concentration or thickening of the dissolved impurities and/or precious materials still present in the suspension are reduced to a pre-determined value; and complete drainage of the membrane filter apparatus to provide, in purified fo

  • Patent number: 6558545
Abstract: The invention encompasses a system for the cross flow filtration of fluid media using membranes. The system has in a first embodiment two shafts, only one of which is hollow, with each shaft running through an axis of its given disc. The disc of each shaft is positioned offset with respect to one another to have a region of overlap therebetween. The region of overlap serves to enhance the efficient operation of the system by reducing the degree of settling of retentate on the disc of the hollow shaft, because of the wiping or cleaning effect achieved upon rotation of each shaft by a drive system. In another embodiment, both shafts are hollow.

  • Patent number: 6461503
Abstract: There is provided an apparatus for the filtration of fluid media, in particular for the pre-screening of media, that has a primary pack of hollow discs, which are arranged parallel to each other at regular distances to each other, the walls of which are made of a sieve material. The apparatus also has a primary, hollow shaft, which penetrates and is fixed to the hollow discs, connecting its interior to the cavities of the discs, and is fitted with a drive. Also included is a secondary pack of discs, which are arranged similarly to the hollow discs of the primary pack. There is a secondary shaft that is arranged similarly to the primary shaft. The two packs with their respective shafts are designed and arranged in such a way that the discs of one pack protrude into the spaces between neighboring discs of the other pack. There is a container that encloses the packs and the shafts. The container has an inlet for the medium to be treated, as well as an outlet for the retentate.
