  • Patent number: 4310493
Abstract: The invention disclosed herein is concerned with a process for mixing a plurality of viscous rapidly reacting, fluid materials and an apparatus with which to perform this process. In this process the fluid materials are initially introduced into a mixing chamber and mixed with a gas, preferably in such a way that an angular momentum is imparted to the mixture. The mixture is then fed into a static mixer which has a short residence time spectrum. The apparatus comprises a cylindrical mixing chamber with a gas inlet and at least one nongaseous fluid material inlet arranged to direct flow tangentially to the interior surface of the mixing chamber. Other inlets may be provided downstream of these initial inlets but before a static mixing apparatus with which said mixing chamber communicates. An outlet is provided downstream of said static mixing apparatus which preferably has intersecting baffle plates, a low pressure loss and a short residence time spectrum.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: October 11, 1978
Date of Patent: January 12, 1982
    Assignee: Bayer Aktiengesellschaft
Inventors: Karl H. Pisaric, Karl-Arnold Weber, Harro Traubel, Dieter Brauner, Manfred H. Pahl

  • Patent number: 4220416
Abstract: In an apparatus for the continuous static mixing of flowable substances in a tubular housing with mixing inserts, the peripheral flow in the housing and the ease of manufacture of the mixing inserts are improved by having the mixing inserts composed of planes provided with intersecting throughflow slots and webs, in which the webs of both planes form a single piece with a transversely extending connecting web and the throughflow slots extend to the housing wall.

  • Patent number: 4201482
Abstract: A mixing insert of solid material into which intersecting channels are drilled is particularly suitable for use as a static mixer for highly viscous liquids. The insert provides a high quality of mixing while withstanding pressure differences of more than 10.sup.7 Pa along the mixer. If the insert is rotated, static and dynamic mixing properties are superimposed on each other in the mixer. Either forward transport of the materials or return for remixing can be particularly promoted according to the sense of rotation and form of the external channels, which must be partly open.

  • Patent number: 4062524
Abstract: A pipe which contains pairs of comb-like plates which are arranged so that the webs of one plate extend crosswise through the slots of the other and which is used for the static mixing of streams of fluid.

  • Patent number: 4061313
Abstract: For the static mixing of flowable substances a tubular housing is used having a mixing insert therein, consisting of a plurality of plates having webs in intersecting planes inclined to the axis of the housing, between which slots are provided, the free spaces within the housing being filled with packing material.
