  • Patent number: 4250778
Abstract: This invention relates to a portable facing machine for cutting a large flat face on a large piece of equipment. The machine includes a frame, which is adapted for supporting the machine in a selected attitude. A spindle support is mounted on the frame and is longitudinally movable in the frame. A head depth control is connected to the spindle support and moves the spindle support relative to the frame and locks the spindle support in a selected position relative to the frame. A cutter support is rotatably mounted in the spindle support and moves with the spindle support. The cutter support includes a head, with a slide mounted in the head. The slide is radially movable in the head. A cutting tool assembly, including a cutting tool, is mounted on the slide, is rotatable with the cutter support, and is radially movable relative to the head. A head drive is connected to the head for rotating the cutter support.

  • Patent number: 4176565
Abstract: The present invention relates to a spherical bearing seat cutter machine for cutting large spherical bearing seats, such as, those used in equipment which is installed in power-generating stations and other like plants. The apparatus includes a pair of spaced supports, each of which is adapted to be connected to a workpiece. A drive shaft is rotatably mounted in the supports. A rotary drive is connected to the drive shaft for rotating the drive shaft in the supports. A cutter assembly is mounted on the drive shaft, which cutter assembly includes a cutting tool which travels on an arcuate track for cutting a spherical bearing seat. The cutter assembly includes a counterweight opposite the cutting tool. An arcuate drive is connected to the cutting tool for moving the cutting tool along the arcuate track as the drive shaft rotates. The machine also includes an axial drive for moving the cutter assembly axially along the drive shaft for making a straight or cylindrical cut.

  • Patent number: 3938411
Abstract: A pipe and tube end preparation apparatus for simultaneously cutting an inside and an outside chamfer on a tube end is herein disclosed. The apparatus generally includes a tube holder and a housing connected to the tube holder. A head carriage mechanism is connected to the housing. The head carriage mechanism is progressively axially movable with respect to the tube holder and the housing. A drive train is rotatably supported by the head carriage mechanism. A cutter head assembly is fixed to the drive train. The cutter head assembly includes an inside chamfer cutter and an opposed outside chamfer cutter, which acts as a cutting guide for the inside chamfer cutter. A tube end, which is to be prepared, is secured by the tube holder. The drive train rotates the cutter head assembly with respect to the tube end. The head carriage mechanism advances the rotating cutter head assembly into cutting engagement with the tube end, thus simultaneously forming an inside chamfer and an outside chamfer on the tube end.
