Abstract: Coated pharmaceutical dosage forms which are resistant to gastric juice and release their active ingredient rapidly at a predetermined pH value in the range from pH 5 to pH 8 are obtained in accordance with the invention by coating pharmaceutical dosage forms with an aqueous dispersion containing dispersed latex particles of a first polymer which contains carboxyl groups and is water soluble between pH 5 and pH 8 and of a second water insoluble film forming polymer, in a weight ratio between 60:40 and 5:95.

Abstract: Coating materials for pharmaceutical dosage forms contain, besides the conventional liquid or solid additives for pharmaceutical coatings, a binder comprising a synthetic polymer, prepared by emulsion polymerization, having 5 to 100% by weight of units derived from monomers of the formula ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 is a hydrogen atom or a lower alkyl group, R.sub.2 is an alkylene or aralkylene group having at least 3 carbon atoms in the chain between the amino nitrogen and the ester oxygen atom of which at least one is tertiary or quaternary, and R.sub.3 and R.sub.4 are lower alkyl radicals or together with the amino-nitrogen atom form a heteroaliphatic ring, and, optionally, additional comonomer units.

Abstract: What are disclosed are methods for making a suspension suitable for use as a coating agent for medicaments by suspending a powder of certain vinyl copolymers in an aqueous solution or suspension of a plasticizer therefor, methods for converting such a suspension of copolymer in plasticizer into a film-forming solution or other extensively homogeneous phase, such suspensions and the film-forming conversion products thereof, and methods for coating medicaments with such suspensions and film-forming conversion products.
