Abstract: The invention relates to a method for transferring unit loads (6-1, 6-2) to storage channels (15) for storage, the unit loads being conveyed to the storage channels by means of a unit load receiving device (7) which is movable along the storage channels in an x-direction and by means of a transport device (28) which can be extended into the storage channel in a z-direction. The transport device comprises outer transport elements (64, 65) in opposite end sections and optionally an inner transport element (66) in between. The unit load is moved from the unit load receiving device into the storage channel up to an intermediate position (ZP) by means of one of the transport elements (64, 65, 66) by moving the transport device in a first direction of adjustment (68). The transport device is then moved back to a second direction of adjustment (69) such that the other of the transport elements (64, 65, 66) is positioned behind a side wall (70) of the unit load facing the unit load receiving device.
