  • Patent number: 6173717
Abstract: Methods of permanent shaping and volumizing hair that are gentle and prevent overcurling are described. In one method using curlers to curl the hair, an alkaline permanent shaping composition having a pH of 7.6 to 11 and including a hair keratin-reducing substance is applied to the hair and allowed to act on the hair for 5 to 30 minutes at room temperature or for 2 to 20 minutes at an elevated temperature. Then the hair is optionally rinsed with water and subsequently with an acidic aqueous intermediate rinse, which has a pH of 2 to 6.5 and includes an aliphatic organic acid. Next the hair is wound onto curlers, after which the hair is allowed to rest for 30 minutes at room temperature or 20 minutes at an elevated temperature. After the resting period the hair is treated with an oxidant-based fixative, which can be a solution of hydrogen peroxide, and the curlers are removed. The hair is subsequently rinsed with water or washed with a shampoo to remove the fixative and combed into a hair style.

  • Patent number: 6103223
Abstract: The present invention relates to a process for permanent hair-styling, characterized in that first only the hair near the scalp is fixed, with a viscous fixing agent, and then wound onto curlers, then the shafts and ends are changed into a soft wave, and the remaining length of the hair is fixed and the fixing agent is rinsed out of the hair, and to means for performing the process. A pronounced curl at the scalp and a permanent wave with a natural effect are obtained.

  • Patent number: 5587174
Abstract: The skin and hair treatment composition includes 0.5 to 2 percent by weight apple wax, 0.1 to 30 percent by weight of at least one anionic, cationic, amphoteric and/or nonionic surfactant, a solvent consisting of water, ethanol, propanol, isopropanol, glycols or mixtures thereof and one or more cosmetic additives selected from the group consisting of perfume oils; opacifiers; pearlescing agents; bacterial and fungicidal ingredients; coconut fatty acid diethanolamide; buffer substances; coloring materials; solubilizers; light stabilizers; antioxidants; complexing agents and antidandruff active ingredients. Methods for obtaining the apple wax used in these compositions include extraction of depectinized apple pomace with a variety of solvents and purification and evaporation of the extract to obtain an apple wax product.

  • Patent number: 5480459
Abstract: The oxidative hair dye composition is in the form of a cream and contains a carrier substance and a dye mixture dissolved in it. The dye mixture includes at least one coupler and at least one developer. The composition has a pH between 4.5 to 12.5 and, in addition to the dye mixture, contains (A) 10 to 30 percent by weight of at least one fatty alcohol with 10 to 24 carbon atoms; (B) 0.2 to 6.0 percent by weight of at least one diester of formula (I)R.sub.1 --CO--O--(CH.sub.2 --CH.sub.2 --O).sub.n --CO--R.sub.2(I),where n is 1, 2 or 3, and R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 are each independently selected from the group consisting of alkyl groups with 12 to 20 carbon atoms; (C) 0.5 to 20 percent by weight glycerin fatty acid ester with 10 to 24 carbon atoms, and (D) 0.1 to 10 percent by weight of at least one emulsifier member selected from the group consisting of nonionic emulsifiers, anionic emulsifiers and ampholytic emulsifiers. The total content of fatty alcohol, of diester and of glycerin fatty acid ester is from 25.

  • Patent number: 4541442
Abstract: The heat treatment apparatus comprises at least three, preferably four, infra-red radiators with arcuate linear heating elements. Two radiators are arranged laterally and one, preferably two, central radiators are arranged above the human head. A support arm is displaceably mounted on a ground stand or a wall bracket. The radial median axes (26) of the lateral radiators (6) include between them an angle (.beta.) of at least 80.degree., preferably 108.degree.. The ratio between the length of each linear heating element of the radiator, preferably comprising a quartz glass tube, and its radius of curvature (R) amounts to at least 0.2, preferably 0.6. Preferably, the radial median axes of the two central radiators include between them an angle (.gamma.) of at least 45.degree., preferably approximately 68.5.degree., the lower central radiator (9) preferably being swingable downwardly through preferably 30.degree. for the treatment of hair of shoulder length.

  • Patent number: 3964499
Abstract: Process for permanently waving or straightening human hair comprising the steps of pretreating the hair with a detergent solution containing an alkali metal- or ammonium sulfite, saturating the hair with an alkaline solution of a mercaptocarboxylic acid salt, winding the hair up on perforated hollow curlers or rollers having a diameter of 10-24 mm, rinsing the hair with water and removing the excess water from the hair, in separate steps or in a combined step treating the hair with peroxide and with a polymerizate to fix and set the same respectively, drying the hair, unwinding the hair from the curlers and combing the hair in the conventional manner to provide the desired hair fashion.
