  • Patent number: 4902393
Abstract: A process for the production of 1,1,2-trichloro-2-methylpropane comprises reacting 1-chloro-2-methylpropene with sulfuryl chloride. This reaction takes place preferably under the effect of light, especially UV light and/or in the presence of an aldehyde as the catalyst. The starting material contains less than 10 ppm of N-containing compounds conventionally employed to stabilize it.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: August 27, 1984
Date of Patent: February 20, 1990
    Assignee: Huels Aktiengesellschaft
    Inventor: Dieter J. Muller
  • Patent number: 4716255
Abstract: 3,3-dichloro-2-methylpropene is prepared by reacting 1-chloro-2-methylpropene with sulfuryl chloride in the presence of a catalytically effective amount of nitrogen-containing bases or phosphines. Suitable nitrogen-containing bases are preferably aliphatic, aromatic and heterocyclic amines, as well as mixtures thereof; suitable phosphines are preferably aliphatic or aromatic phosphines.

  • Patent number: 4714792
Abstract: 1,2,3-trichloropropane is prepared by reacting allyl chloride with sulfuryl chloride, in the presence of 1-10,000 ppm of a nitrogen-containing base, a phosphine or a phosphine oxide. Suitable nitrogen-containing bases include aliphatic, aromatic and heterocyclic amines, and mixtures thereof; suitable phosphines are preferably aliphatic or aromatic phosphines and suitable phosphine oxides are aliphatic or aromatic phosphine oxides.

  • Patent number: 4572743
Abstract: A method for removing rust and/or scale from a metal surface, comprising contacting said metal surface with a homogeneous pickling solution comprising a major amount of a halogenated hydrocarbon solvent, an effective solubilizing amount of at least one alcohol solubilizer, an effective pickling amount of an aqueous phosphoric acid and preferably a mixture of phosphoric and sulfuric acids as pickling agent, and an effective inhibiting amount of at least one inhibitor for protecting the bare metal surface; wherein said contacting is effected at a temperature from room temperature up to the boiling point of said pickling solution; and wherein said contacting is continued for a time sufficient to substantially remove said rust and/or scale. This pickling system is advantageously used to prepare metals for phosphating in halocarbon-based phosphating baths.
    Type: Grant

  • Patent number: 4171324
Abstract: An improved process for the conversion of allyl and methallyl chloride to sodium allyl and methallyl sulfonate, respectively, by reaction with aqueous sodium sulfite which comprises conducting the reaction at 33.degree.-70.degree. C. and 33.degree.-80.degree. C., respectively, while maintaining the pH at 7-11 throughout the reaction.
