The documents are stored at one or more network sites which are accessible via a network by a computer system, and are registered with a page filter system. The method comprises the steps of determining needs and/or intentions and/or a field of interest of the user, defining a user specification based on the determined needs and/or intentions and/or a field of interest of the user, determining a subset of the electronic documents comprising only those of the electronic documents which comprise content that has a predetermined relation to the user specification, and using the identified subset to amend the presentation of at least one of the electronic documents to the user.

A voice-generated output can be generated from a speech signal by performing a speech recognition task to convert the speech signal into computer-processable segments. During the speech recognition task, the context-enhanced database can be accessed to improve the speech recognition rate. Accordingly, the speech signal can be interpreted with respect to words included within the context-enhanced database. Additionally, a user can edit or correct an output in order to generate the final voice-generated output which can be made available.

Abstract: Methods and apparatus are provided to facilitate customization of information presented by web sites for display to an Internet user based on his preferences. In a customization system connectable to web sites via the Internet, a user specification is stored in response to input of the Internet user. The user specification comprises data which indicates, for each of a plurality of predefined preference elements, each of which may have a plurality of predefined values corresponding to respective user preferences, a value corresponding to the user's preference. On establishment of a connection by the Internet user to any one of a plurality of web sites, at least some of the user specification data is supplied to the web site by the customization system. When the user establishes the connection to the web site, at least some of the prestored user specification data is supplied to the web site.

Abstract: A method and apparatus is provided which permits mobile computers equipped with modems for cellular telephone systems to obtain various classes of data communication services, as well as voice service, including taking part in local-area networks. The LAN's may be composed of conventional LANS in establishments or of other mobile computers. In this way, mobile computers can take part in mainstream client-server computing and also establish wireless LANs using the cellular telephone system.
