  • Patent number: 5202134
Abstract: An oscillating device for a continuous-casting mold is disclosed. The device includes a generally retangular base frame, two eccentric shafts arranged in parallel on the base frame and arranged to be driven in rotation. Each of the two eccentric shafts is connected to a respective pair of eccentrics that are arranged on corners of the base frame and by which oscillation can be imparted to the mold. The device includes a support plate having a centrally arranged opening in which the mold is fastened. A respective wear plate is positioned at each corner of the support plate, below the support plate. The wear plate rests on a respective eccentric outer ring that, in turn, is mounted for rotation on one of the pair of eccentrics that is driven in rotation. The device further includes spring bars arranged parallel to edges of the support plate and having connections at corner points to the base frame and, between the corner points, to the support plate.

  • Patent number: 4830087
Abstract: A method of continuous casting of ingots having a cross section with a high width to height or thickness ratio includes the steps of using a mold with a corresponding cross section and a casting pipe with bottom or near-bottom outlets and having laterally a minimum distance from the wall of the mold; preheating the casting pipe prior to casting to a temperature being at least approximately similar to the temperature of the metal later to be poured into the mold; initially closing the bottom outlet of the mold prior to startup; pouring molten metal into the mold for filling the mold up to a particular level while continuing heating the casting pipe; commencing withdrawal of an ingot from the mold along a curved path when the level of molten metal in the mold has reached the level of the outlet or outlets of the casting pipe.

  • Patent number: 4256168
Abstract: The invention refers to a spray nozzle arrangement for metal strand casting plants, particularly steel strand casting plants with several nozzles on one spray plane, such nozzles being adjustable with respect to the distance from the casting strand, and with each other in parallel direction; they are also adjustable at right angle with the course of direction of the strand by means of parallel adjusting devices. Adjustment of the spray nozzles serves the purpose to either control the cooling intensity via the impact energy, or to adapt the spray angle of a certain spray nozzle to a change in strand width. Both steps may be used in combination for the adjustment required.

  • Patent number: 4252180
Abstract: A pressure release device is provided for metal strand casting plants to relieve the pressure between opposed sets of supporting rolls for the strand in instances where unusual pressure build-up takes place between the opposed sets of rolls. The device is simple and inexpensive and may be positioned in the axis of the connecting rods between two opposed roll stands. The device accommodates a regular mechanical spindle-threaded nut spacing arrangement, which may be manually adjusted and avoids the problem of "freezing" which is common with such devices using a "built-in" frictional release arrangement.

  • Patent number: 4227636
Abstract: The invention covers a supporting roller stand for steel slab strand casting plants, particularly for curved slab strand casting plants with supporting rollers of differential lengths being arranged opposite, in pairs, along the broad sides of the strand profile, subdivided on at least one side over the width of the strand, such supporting rollers being furthermore arranged in groups of differential diameters.

  • Patent number: 4202274
Abstract: The invention refers to an apparatus for disposal of cut end portions in a multistrand casting plant, particularly in a twin strand steel slab strand casting plant, consisting of vehicles moving on a rail track in a position in the strand paths following the separating or cutting device in vertical direction and positioned between the conveyor path rollers of the parallel casting strands. Such vehicles are provided with a bearing surface for the cut end portions just below the conveyor path transport level. The rail track connects the conveyor paths of a strand with a discharge station.

  • Patent number: 4161209
Abstract: The invention refers to a dolly for the starting or initiation strand of a metal strand casting plant, the dolly being equipped with guide pulleys at each end for a traction device embracing the pulleys and forming the drive for the initiation strand. The traction device includes a retractible support carrier for the starting or initiation strand. The support carrier has forwardly and rearwardly facing bearing surfaces which engage cooperating bearing surfaces on each end of an initiation strand for the engagement, support and positioning thereof. The invention eliminates the need for hoisting cranes of great height, and provides effective control of the initial feeding of the initiation strand to the casting mold.

  • Patent number: 4132261
Abstract: The invention refers to a support, drive and guide roller stand for a metal strand casting plant, particularly for a steel slab curved strand casting plant, consisting of several segments with rollers and counter-rollers mounted in separate segment frames. Several rollers are arranged in one common segment frame, whereby one segment frame, carrying rollers, can be set for casting thickness and/or shrinking thickness relative to the segment frame carrying the counter-rollers, and whereby individual rollers are provided whose length is foreshortened vs. the strand width.
