Patent number: 9020726Abstract: A torque management system and method is described by which the torque provided by an engine can be controlled based on a mass of the vehicle and, if available, instantaneous and/or predictive slope information. Also, in some modes of operation, torque can be controlled based on speed limit information for upcoming road segments to be traveled by a vehicle. In addition to controlling the maximum allowable torque, optionally the minimum allowable torque can also be controlled to prevent inadvertent decelerations of the vehicle. A driver/operator can optionally override the torque control and the history of override requests can optionally be used to adjust overrides of the system. A plurality of torque control approach sub-methods can be made available with the appropriate sub-mode being selected depending, for example, upon the extent of the available information.Type: GrantFiled: November 4, 2009Date of Patent: April 28, 2015Assignee: Daimler Trucks North America LLCInventors: Elmar Boeckenhoff, Dieter Reckels, Derek James Rotz, Shivkumar Duraiswamy

Patent number: 8700256Abstract: A Vehicle Disturbance Estimator determines estimates of a vehicle disturbance force according to vehicle operating conditions. The determined vehicle disturbance force estimate can be used, for example, in connection with controlling a cruise control system for the vehicle, in connection with fuel economy evaluations and testing, and in connection with vehicle diagnostics. A plurality of sets of inputs can be used to determine plural vehicle disturbance estimates for time periods during which a cruise control is on, the vehicle is being driven in the highest gear, and the vehicle is not being braked by any brakes. The plurality of vehicle disturbance estimates can be averaged to provide an output corresponding to an average vehicle disturbance estimate over a plurality of sampling time periods. Kalman filtering can be used to determine the vehicle disturbance estimates.Type: GrantFiled: August 22, 2008Date of Patent: April 15, 2014Assignee: Daimler Trucks North America LLCInventors: Shivkumar Duraiswamy, Dieter Reckels

Publication number: 20100102593Abstract: An interior fitting for a motor vehicle is equipped with a bunk and a seat. An element that can be moved into two different operating positions is provided. In a first operating position, the element extends the bunk, while, in the second operating position, the element forms a table for the seat.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 23, 2008Publication date: April 29, 2010Applicant: Daimler AGInventors: Jochen BISINGER, Dieter RECKELS, Holger SCHLEIFE, Kai SIEBER

Publication number: 20100102942Abstract: A carrier supports a screen in an interior fitting for a motor vehicle, such as a driver's cab of a motor truck. The screen can be moved into two different positions relative to the carrier. In this way the screen can be used for various applications. The screen, for example, can be used for a television function or as a PC monitor.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 23, 2008Publication date: April 29, 2010Applicant: Daimler AGInventors: Jochen Bisinger, Dieter Reckels, Holger Schleife, Kai Sieber

Publication number: 20100101020Abstract: A folding bunk with ladder is to save space and be easy to use in a motor vehicle. The design layout therefore constitutes a folding bunk with a support frame for placement of a mattress, a folding axis that is arranged on a first side of the support frame for pivoting the folding bunk, and a ladder mounted on the second side of the support frame opposite the first side. The ladder is mounted on the support frame in such a way that it can only pivot on a pivot axis parallel to the folding axis and has no other degrees of freedom. In this way, the ladder can be moved into the useable position in one single operation. If required, the ladder can be combined with a safety element to protect the person lying on the folding bunk.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 23, 2008Publication date: April 29, 2010Applicant: Daimler AGInventors: Jochen BISINGER, Dieter Reckels, Holger Schleife, Kai Sieber

Publication number: 20060293822Abstract: In a method and apparatus for controlling an automatic transmission in a motor vehicle, a vehicle simulation device uses information regarding current vehicle operating parameters, together with map information regarding a route being traveled by the vehicle to project the dynamic longitudinal behavior of the vehicle, including vehicle velocity for the road that lies ahead. An evaluation module utilizes speed profile information generated in this manner to develop a desired torque. Finally, a shift strategy module converts the desired torque into a desired gear and a point in time for shifting, such that the transmission either shifts into neutral or shifts to an appropriate gear. The invention may be implemented in the form of hardware components, in the form of software modules which are run on either a centralized or distributed vehicle control system, or a combination of hardware and software components.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 27, 2005Publication date: December 28, 2006Applicant: FREIGHTLINER LLCInventors: Frank Lattemann, Felix Kauffmann, Dieter Reckels
