Abstract: A method and apparatus for placement of a doctor blade bar against an ink dispensing roller utilizes doctor blade supporting base bodies which have resiliently supported doctor blades and which are shiftable between rest and work positions along doctor blade base support beams by blade base shifting devices. The doctor blades are moved into engagement with the screen roller along a curved path. The resilient support of the doctor blades eliminates blade warping and possible damage to the working edge of the blades.

Abstract: A doctor blade bar for a short inking unit employs an eccentric disk to engage an abutment on a doctor blade holder to retract a doctor blade that is held by the holder and a cooperating doctor blade guide into a retracted position with respect to a screen roller, Disengagement of the eccentric disk from the abutment allows the doctor blade to be moved by a pressure spring into contact with the screen roller.

Abstract: A two chamber ink container for a short inking unit of an offset rotary printing unit is generally funnel shaped and has an ink reservoir chamber and a feedback chamber. A separating plate divides the ink container into its two chambers. A lower portion of the separating plate defines a flow passage for the ink and doctored-off ink and water back to an ink pump and thence to a chambered doctor blade.

Doctor blade base shifting devices use rotatable clamping bodies which can be turned to form extensions of the base support beams on which the doctor blade bar can rest when it is in a mounting position.

Free axial ends of the working doctor blade extend beyond the ends of the end plates and remove built-up ink beads. This removed ink flows down the surface of the inwardly inclined end plates.
