  • Patent number: 7777380
Abstract: An electric motor has a wound rotor having a shaft, a rotor core, a commutator and windings wound about the rotor core and connected to the commutator. The motor has a stator confronting the rotor; brush gear electrically connecting the commutator to motor terminals; first and second bearings for rotatably supporting the rotor, and an oil collector fitted to the shaft between the commutator and the first bearing for preventing oil migrating along the shaft from the first bearing reaching the commutator. The oil collector is of high temperature material, preferably a metal such as brass, aluminum and steel. The oil collector returns the collected oil to the first bearing.

  • Patent number: 5854584
Abstract: A device for protecting a fractional-horsepower motor from overheating. The motor is intended to accommodate a high heat load. Its power supply accommodates a make-or-break switch. A bimetal component opens the switch once a certain temperature has been attained. The bimetal component is mounted on a support. The switch, the bimetal component, and its support are electrically connected in series. There is a specific ratio between the electrical impedance and heat capacity of the bimetal component and those of its support, and they are extensively in surface-to-surface contact.

  • Patent number: 4820948
Abstract: A d.c. electric motor has an oil collector located fast on a motor shaft, between a lubricated bearing and a commutator. Collector is of rubber and forms an oil tight seal with the motor shaft so that oil will migrate into a ring portion where the centrifugal force of the rotating motor will retain the oil in the ring. Preferably the collector has an oleophobic coating thereon.
