  • Patent number: 8701564
Abstract: A self-steering system for a radial bogie of a railroad vehicle is provided. The self-steering system includes a plurality of links which connect the leading and trailing wheelsets to the bogie frame. Each of the links is adapted to provide a smaller degree of movement between the link and the wheelset at one end and a larger degree of movement between the link and the bogie frame at the other end.

  • Publication number: 20050183625
Abstract: An improved semi-articulated railway power bogie has a pair of multiple axle sub-bogies semi-articulated for creep force turning control while retaining freedom of rocking and relative longitudinal motion. An equalized centered bolster suspension and low load transfer rod linkage maintain high equalization of loads and tractive forces at the wheels to provide overall high adhesion and curving efficiency. Various improvements may include a preloaded resilient compression element in an articulating mechanism for improved sub-bogie turning control, two piece bearing adapters carrying primary spring suspensions and with rubber bushed traction rods and lateral thrust control for transmitting longitudinal and lateral forces to sub-bogie frames, and rubber bushed nose links connecting traction motor nose connections to transoms of the frames.

  • Patent number: 6871598
Abstract: An arrangement for self-steering, radial bogie, truck or vehicle frame for locomotives and other railroad vehicles, which includes steering beams for and located behind their respective leading and trailing wheelsets, and whose rotary motions are coupled by an inter-axle link to provide opposite transverse movement of the first and third wheelsets upon traversing curves.

  • Patent number: 5488910
Abstract: On truck frames having three wheelsets, the invention teaches that the middle wheelset is in contact on each side with the vehicle frame by means of actuators in the lateral direction. These actuators are used to adjust the middle wheelset when the train travels through curves toward the outside of the curve, as a function of the angle of rotation of the truck frame, which is determined by means of measurement elements.

  • Patent number: 5429056
Abstract: On undercarriages for railway vehicles with at least four wheelsets which are combined into trucks, the invention teaches that force-controlled or displacement-controlled actuators are located on the end wheelsets of the trucks. These actuators thereby act on the wheelset bearings, and in terms of their effect, they are connected in parallel, in the case of the force-controlled actuators, and in series, in the case of the displacement-controlled actuator with a wheelset restraint. This system makes possible a controlled rotation of the wheelset in relation to the truck frame.

  • Patent number: 4501170
Abstract: After the gear ratio of an automatic transmission has been increased in response to a braking operation the return to normal operation of the automatic transmission is controlled by logic circuits interconnecting threshold switches operated by the brake pedal and the accelerator pedal and by a read-only memory that stores a maximum engine speed for all values of vehicle speed so that the higher gear ratio is maintained until either the brake is released or the maximum engine speed is exceeded and then the return to normal transmission operation is further delayed until the accelerator pedal is again actuated. In one method, during the period of further delay the gear ratio continues at its raised value. In another embodiment the period of further delay begins with storage of the vehicle speed at the moment and proceeds with control of the transmission to maintain that speed.

  • Patent number: 4499412
Abstract: A regulating device for an electromagnetic control element, especially for an internal combustion engine with auto-ignition, is proposed in which a non-linear regulator with preferably a PD characteristic is coupled with a pulse regulator, preferably a two-point regulator with PID characteristic. Of special advantage is the interposition of a limiting device, which allows an increase in the D portion of the non-linear regulator, while at the same time suppressing interference. This results in an excellent control behavoir, especially in the face of small control deviations and in a control element or control circuit afflicted with friction and/or (magnetic) hysteresis.
