Patent number: 5763275Abstract: The method relates to the co-culturing of two cell cultures in two cell culture chambers such that the cellular products produced by the co-cultured cells are exchanged between the two cell culture chambers. The apparatus for culturing the cells contains two cell culture chambers separated by a microfiltration membrane which is permeable to medium, gases, and cellular products, and is impermeable to cells. A culture medium supply chamber is adjacent to and separated from the first cell culture chamber by a dialysis membrane which is permeable to medium and gases. The exterior portion of the second cell culture contains a gas-exchange membrane which allows gas exchange between the apparatus and the environment. The apparatus can be in a modular form where the first and second cell culture chambers form one module which is detachable from the culture medium supply chamber which forms the second module.Type: GrantFiled: September 9, 1996Date of Patent: June 9, 1998Assignee: Heraeus Instruments GmbHInventors: Hans-Otto Nagels, Dieter Schroder, Eckart Kopowski

Patent number: 5702945Abstract: The purpose of the present invention is to attain optimal gas exchange, nutrient supply and disposal of metabolic waste products without contamination during high-density cell cultivation of adherent cells. The culture vessel of the present invention provides methods and apparatus for the cultivation of cells on a three-dimensional carrier in a closed cell culture chamber, the supply with oxygen taking place across a gas-permeable gas exchange membrane bordering the cell culture chamber and the supply with nutrients taking place across a dialysis membrane bordering the cell culture chamber, across which nutrients are transported and across which metabolic products are removed, without the danger of contaminating the cells during contact with the tools necessary for manually separating the cells being cultivated from the nutrient medium. The cell culture chamber of the present invention features a vessel that is impermeable to fluids on all sides except for the boundary formed by the dialysis membrane.Type: GrantFiled: February 1, 1996Date of Patent: December 30, 1997Assignee: Heraeus Instruments GmbHInventors: Hans-Otto Nagels, Dieter Schroder, Eckart Kopowski

Patent number: 4978153Abstract: A latch is known for a laboratory apparatus, for locking a cover or door on its housing, having a hook 12 in one of the parts to be locked and a lock 1 in the other. The lock has a pivotable locking element 3 with a claw-shaped opening 9 which engages the hook 12 against the pressure of a spring and is releasable from engagement with the hook by an actuating element 7. In order to provide a latch of this kind with means to meet strict safety requirements and ensure secure locking during operation of the apparatus, an additional closing element 4, opening element 5, and securing element 6, which engage one another, are disposed between the locking element 3 and the actuating element 7.Type: GrantFiled: June 29, 1989Date of Patent: December 18, 1990Assignee: Heraeus Sepatech GmbHInventors: Christian Hirsch, Dieter Schroder, Eckart Kopowski, Helmut Kocher

Patent number: 4549592Abstract: A roller for moving equipment such as furniture has a wheel whose wheel disk is provided with a rim having a pair of outwardly extending flanges. The tire mounted on this rim has an inner portion wholely received between the flanges and an outwardly portion lying wholely outwardly of the flanges. The inner portion is provided with such bores in angularly equi-spaced relationship and wholely within the circumference of the flanges so as to be closed therebetween. The outer portion is flush with the outer surfaces of the flanges.Type: GrantFiled: December 6, 1982Date of Patent: October 29, 1985Assignee: Paul Vom Stein & Co.Inventor: Dieter Schroder

Patent number: 4255869Abstract: A method of treating bulk goods requiring control of process parameters including moisture content, temperature, and quantity of goods through the use of a process computer. The computer evaluates and continuously monitors and modifies variations in the supply material in relation to a particular mathematical formula. Modification procedures are determined by the process computer and then actuated via the control circuitry.Type: GrantFiled: October 20, 1978Date of Patent: March 17, 1981Inventors: Karl W. Patent number: 4093118Abstract: To permit light-weight construction of a rotor of a centrifuge holding sample carriers adapted to retain probes, the rotor is formed at its outer circumference with a sleeve of at least partly fiber-reinforced plastic. The holders are secured to the rotor and movable in guide means so that when swinging outwardly under centrifugal force, they can abut against the outer sleeve, preferably with interposition of a segmental element to provide for large area contact, the fiber-reinforced plastic sleeve, being continuous and circular, absorbing centrifugal forces.Type: GrantFiled: June 2, 1977Date of Patent: June 6, 1978Assignee: Heraeus Christ GmbHInventors: Hartmut Sinn, Dieter Schroder, Hans Stallmann

Patent number: 4035864Abstract: A lockable caster, more particularly a swivel caster, having a locking dee for locking the running wheel to prevent it from running and/or to prevent the caster-fork from swivelling. In the cavity of the caster-fork is disposed an expanding toggle which takes the form of a foot-operated control lever, which is pivotally mounted in a socket, and is guided by a guide lug in a guide slot. On the trailing side of the caster, the expanding toggle is pivotally mounted below the fork back in a socket of a resilient or spring-loaded locking rocker. The fork back and locking rocker enclose the expanding toggle between themselves with prestressing. The guide slot may be disposed in the rear portion of the caster-fork. The guide lug takes the form of a resetting cam which in the locking position extends out of the guide slot to form a foot-operated cam to tilt the expanding toggle back into its release position.Type: GrantFiled: July 15, 1975Date of Patent: July 19, 1977Assignee: Firm Tente-Rollen Gesellschaft mit beschrankter Haftung CompanieInventor: Klaus Dieter Schroder
