  • Patent number: 5324156
Abstract: An apparatus is disclosed for storing and discharging rod-shaped workpieces of different lengths and types and for the automatic supply of, in particular, a cutting-off machine or a station for processing these workpieces under the control of a computer or the like, with at least one shelf system being provided that is equipped with shelf compartments. A hoist is provided for supplying the shelf system and for removing workpieces from the shelf system. The length of each incoming or outgoing workpiece is determined and the determined length value is appropriately stored in the computer. The length measurement is performed by a length measuring device for determining the distance of the front end faces of the workpieces from an abutment. The length measuring device includes a manually operated device that is operated with ultrasound, light or the like directed onto a wall in the region of the workpiece abutment.

  • Patent number: 5320016
Abstract: To permit miter cuts clear through a workpiece, or for selected depths, a saw band carrier (6) supports a pair of saw band wheels (7, 8) above and below a workpiece support (2), and the saw band wheel carrier (6) is pivotable about a substantially vertical axis of rotation (29). The axis of rotation (29) is preferably located at the initial cutting engagement point of an endless saw band (9) looped about the saw band wheels (7, 8), and the pivoting position can be arrested at any desired pivoted or angular position. In addition, the saw band carrier can be arranged to tilt about an essentially horizontal tilt axis.

  • Patent number: 5103704
Abstract: The clamping device has a stationary, substantially vertical clamping face (5) for the workpiece, arranged at right angles with respect to the feed direction of the saw band. A movable clamping jaw (8) is horizontally movable with respect thereto, the clamping jaw (8) having a substantially vertical clamping face (9). The movable clamping jaw (8) is formed as a clamping bridge (7), reaching over the machine table. The fixed clamping face (5) also reaches over the machine table, while leaving a passage for the saw band. The ends of the clamping bridge are guided horizontally beside the machine bench, for clampable adjustment perpendicular to the clamping faces (5, 9), the clamping bridge (7) being pivotable on guide blocks (22, 23) slidable on guide rails next to and below the table (2) of the saw, so that the clamping bridge can clamp a workpiece (3) between the clamping faces, by a toggle connection to a handle, or release the movable bridge.

  • Patent number: 4765215
Abstract: A device for advancing rod-shaped material in a cutting machine, in which ring the cutting operation the material is held by at least one pair of clamping jaws that are arranged in front of the cutting plane in the material advance direction and by a pair of advancing jaws which are arranged after the cutting plane and can be displaced in the material advance direction, of which at least one advancing jaw can be moved transversely to the material advance direction for the purpose of clamping the material and by means of which the workpiece material can be displaced by an amount corresponding to the portion to be cut off and by means of which the severed material can be removed. The arrangement is such that the transversely movable advancing jaw can be displaced beyond the other advancing jaw and that the other advancing jaw can be moved out the corresponding lateral displacement path of the severed material for disposal of the cut piece of material.

  • Patent number: 4708566
Abstract: A stack conveyor and handler in the form of a crane for stacking rod-like material in a warehouse or storage system or the like, in which the load-bearing beam is vertically movable on guides of the crane and has load pickup devices in the form of prongs or the like. Prongs identical to these prongs and located opposite them are firmly connected to the beam, and clamping mandrels for gripping the material are movable substantially vertically between opposed prongs. The load-bearing beam is supported such that it is rotatable, about an axis that is horizontal as well as parallel to the corridors between stacks, between at least two operating positions, in which the prongs extend in the longitudinal direction.
