    Abstract: A double cut folder is provided for a printing press. The folder has a first cutting cylinder pair including a first knife cylinder and a first anvil cylinder for perforating a web, and a second cutting cylinder pair including a second knife cylinder and a second anvil cylinder for cutting the web into signatures. Each cutting cylinder pair includes a plurality of knife mounting locations and a plurality of cutting rubber locations. Each knife mounting location is configured to hold a knife box. A first subset of the plurality of knife mounting locations each have a knife box secured therein, and a second subset of the plurality of knife mounting locations do not have a knife box secured therein.

The printing press also includes a pair of first accelerator nip rolls receiving the web as the web is cut into the signatures and accelerating each of the signatures and at least one motor accelerating the pair of first accelerator nip rolls such that the first accelerator nip rolls have a first surface velocity equal to a velocity of the web as the web is received by the first accelerator nip rolls and the first accelerator nip rolls have a second surface velocity greater than the first surface velocity as the first accelerator nip rolls release each of the signatures. The first knife cylinder rotates about a first cylinder axis in a web travel direction and the first segmented knife blade rotates about a first knife axis in the opposite direction. Also included is a first counterpart cylinder, which the first segmented knife blade contacts to perforate a web. The cutting apparatus also includes a second knife cylinder having a second knife blade. The second knife cylinder rotates about a second cylinder axis in the web travel direction and the second knife blade rotates about a second knife axis the opposite direction. Also included is a second counterpart cylinder, which the second knife blade contacts to cut the web adjacent to where the first segmented knife blade perforated the web, so as to sever the web and create a signature.

    Abstract: A printing press is provided. The printing press includes a print unit printing a stream of printed products, the printed products having a first pitch. The printing press also includes a pitch changing device. The pitch changing device includes an upper roller mounted on an upper axle, a lower roller mounted on a lower axle, the upper and lower rollers forming a roller nip, and a motor driving the upper and lower rollers in opposite directions. The nip receives the stream of printed products. The motor varies the velocity of the nip and the printed products using an electronic cam velocity profile so as to alter the first pitch. A method is also provided.
