  • Patent number: 5895394
Abstract: In a surgical applicator for U-shaped clips comprising a handle, a tubular shaft adjoining the handle, a forceps-type applicator tool at the free end of the tubular shaft, a closing mechanism for the applicator tool arranged in the tubular shaft and actuatable from the handle, an advancing mechanism for the clips arranged in the tubular shaft and also actuatable from the handle, two separate actuating elements on the handle, each being movable between a rest position and a work position, one of the actuating elements being associated with the closing mechanism and the other with the advancing mechanism, in order to improve the safety measures and the actuating aids, it is proposed that a locking member be mounted on one of the actuating elements and enter into operative connection with the other actuating element, thereby to prevent each of the two actuating elements from moving so long as the respective other actuating element is not in its rest position.

  • Patent number: 5728046
Abstract: In a surgical retractor having a frame on which at least two retractor elements are mounted, if desired, so as to be displaceable, to enable individual adjustment of the forces exerted by the retractor elements on the surrounding tissue, it is proposed that the frame have at least one support foot which carries attachment means for fixing on a bone.

  • Patent number: 5722988
Abstract: A tool is secured to a tube of a tubular-handled surgical instrument via a tool holder. An actuator is fitted in the tube and is movable longitudinally therein to move the tool. The tool holder has an extension which can be inserted into the tube. At its end surrounding the extension, the tube has radially movable components which, when pushed in, secure the extension by a frictional or force fit against axial movement in the tube. When radially pulled out, the fit is broken and the extension can be axially extracted from the tube.

  • Patent number: 5709706
Abstract: A surgical instrument including a shank, at least one tool mounted for swivel movement at the end of the shank, a swivel element mounted for swivel movement about an axis of rotation for swivelling the tool between an open position and a closed position, and an actuating member actuatable from an end of the shank located opposite the tool for swivelling the swivel element about the axis of rotation. The high closing forces required for plastic deformation of objects can also be achieved without excessive forces being transmitted to the drive mechanisms. The actuating member is an arm which is articulatedly connected at a first articulation point to the swivel element, and that in the open position of the tool, the arm be at an incline to an axis of the swivel element extending perpendicularly to the axis of rotation through the first articulation point and in the closed position of the tool, be essentially perpendicular to the axis of the swivel element.

  • Patent number: 5702411
Abstract: To enable easier manufacturability of the clamping ring for a surgical clip comprising two arms which are elastically pivotable towards each other and each have one clamping jaw, an end section in which the arms meet, and located therebetween a tensioning section on which the clamping ring surrounding the arms is displaceable in the longitudinal direction, with a part connected to the clamping ring engaging between the arms, it is proposed that the clamping ring carry diametrically opposed projections integrally formed on the clamping ring and protruding inwardly into the area surrounded by the clamping ring.

  • Patent number: 5669915
Abstract: A drilling jig for surgical drilling tools is disclosed. The drilling jig comprises two sleeves of identical design mounted alongside each other on a common holder, with each sleeve being mounted on the holder so as to be pivotable in relation to each other about an axis of rotation extending perpendicular to their respective longitudinal axes. Each sleeve is hollow to allow a drilling tool to pass through. At the rear end of each sleeve is a stop surface for the drilling tool to rest against, the stop surface delimiting the depth to which the drilling tool penetrates the sleeve. Each sleeve is of two-part design and includes a bearing part and an adjusting part, with the bearing part carrying the front end of the sleeve and the adjusting part carrying the stop surface.

  • Patent number: 5630832
Abstract: A tubular-handled surgical instrument has two mutually articulated grip shanks. A tube is secured on one of the shanks, with a tool fitted at its end. A rod-like actuator for the tool is fitted to move longitudinally in the tube and articulated on the other shank via a cylindrical or spherical end. A releasable connection is provided between the tube and the actuator on the one hand and between the two shanks on the other. The tube is insertable into a tubular recess in one shank and axially securable therein by at least one radially movable spherical locking member making a friction fit with the tube in one end position. The radial movement of the locking member is limited by a stop bearing on the outside of the locking member formed by a sleeve axially movable on the tubular recess. The sleeve is movable in relation to the locking member in such a way that the locking member can be moved radially outwards to differing extents.

  • Patent number: 5618260
Abstract: In order to make the covered tissue areas visible in an X-ray picture when using a surgical instrument for the retention of tissue which has at least one valve held on one side, also when using a material impermeable to X-rays, it is suggested that the contact surface of the valves have openings in a distribution which leaves an increasing, non-perforated cross-sectional area from the free end of the contact surface up to its holder.

  • Patent number: 5584844
Abstract: In order to facilitate a simple assembling and disassembling of the individual parts of an instrument for surgical purposes with two working parts displaceable relative to one another and two gripping arms pivotal relative to one another, one of these arms being connected to the one working part and the other to the other working part such that during closing and opening, respectively, of the gripping arms the two working parts are displaced relative to one another, with one of the two gripping arms bearing a shaft for the pivotal mounting of the other gripping arm, it is suggested that the shaft have regions with different diameters and be displaceable such that either a region with a larger diameter or a region with a smaller diameter is operative in the region of the other gripping arm, that the other gripping arm have an insertion slot widening in the shape of a keyhole and having a narrower slide-in section and a widened bearing section for the shaft, the width thereof in the narrow slide-in section bein

  • Patent number: 5554228
Abstract: A medical tubular shaft instrument with a channel-like cavity is cleaned by drawing a cleaning liquid through the cavity by vacuum suction. The instrument is placed into a holder in a container where one end of the instrument is dipped into a cleaning liquid held in the container. The other end of the instrument is connected to a suction line. A flushing action in the interior of the cavity is created which removes impurities residing there. A device is also proposed which can clean one or several instruments at the same time, and can be folded to a more compact position when not in use.
