    Abstract: The invention relates to a process for preparing a polysulfide comprising the step of reacting a first hydroxyl-terminated polysulfide of formula (I) wherein n is 2 to 40, with at least one compound selected from the group consisting of a second hydroxyl-terminated polysulfide which is in accordance with formula (I), a hydroxyl- and/or thiol-containing molecule, and a phosphorous sulfide to obtain a third hydroxyl-terminated polysulfide, wherein the reaction is carried out in the presence of an acid catalyst if the compound is the second hydroxyl-terminated polysulfide or the hydroxyl- and/or thiol- containing molecule, and if the compound is the phosphorous sulfide, the reaction is optionally carried out in the presence of an acid catalyst.
