  • Patent number: 7345386
Abstract: An electric drive unit includes an electric motor for driving a fan. The motor has an electronic control module. An impeller wheel for producing a working air flow is mounted by bearings on an axle of the electric motor. The hub of the impeller wheel has at least one preferably two walls enclosing a cooling space or cooling space portions. At least one cooling surface of a cooling body is in contact with components of the electronic control module and projects into the cooling space. A gap formed between the hub of the impeller wheel and a carrier section communicates with an inner hub space. Holes (43, 322) communicating with the hub inner space are provided in at least one component of the electric drive unit. When the impeller wheel rotes a convection cooling air flow is established between the gap and the holes.

  • Patent number: 7215058
Abstract: A rotor motor (10) includes a rotor (12), a rotor winding (22, 44), carbon brushes (24, 26), at least one magnet (16), and a shaft (14) originating from the rotor. In order to simplify the design and make economical production possible, the rotor winding is injection molded onto the rotor using an electrically conducting plastic.

  • Patent number: 6472783
Abstract: The invention relates to a brushless, electronically commuted motor, more particularly one used as drive motor for a ventilator drive mechanism in an automobile, comprising a permanent magnetic outer rotor (5), in which a stator (7) with three winding wires staggered at 120° el is mounted, in addition to several winding coils for each winding wire. The pitch of the coil of the winding coils (15-37) is s smaller than the pitch of the pole and 0.5 coils are wound per pole and wire (9, 11, 13). A flat, compact, light-weight, silent and efficient EC motor (1) is obtained due to the fact that each winding wire consists of several parallel-connected windings, the outer rotor (5) has at least p=3 pole pairs and a control plate with conductor rails is provided to connect the individual winding coils.

  • Patent number: 6364004
Abstract: A cooling fan, in particular a radiator fan for a motor vehicle, includes an electronically commutated electric motor and an electronics casing (21) with an electronic control for controlling the electric motor. The outer surface of the electronics casing (21) has cooling fins (25), the free ends of which project into the cold air flow produced by the impeller (9) of the fan. The free ends (27) of the cooling fins (25) projecting into the cold air flow have air diverting elements through which a part of the predominantly axial cold air flow produced by the impeller (9) is diverted in a radial direction relative to the impeller (9) and then in the longitudinal direction of other ends (29) of the cooling fins (25) arranged on the surface of the electronics casing (21). This provides effective cooling of the electronics casing.

  • Patent number: 6300697
Abstract: The invention relates to a circuit configuration for connecting the stator windings of a brushless, electronically commutated motor, especially as a drive motor for an automobile fan drive. The configuration comprises a circuit board (63) with conducting paths, each of which is connected to the wire leads of the winding coils of each phase winding and one of which is connected to the ends of winding coils of all of the phase windings. This electronically commutated motor simplifies the interconnection of the stator windings in that the circuit board (63) includes an annular disk-shaped support plate (65) which, together with the stator assembly, is attached by a hub (67) to a bearing support pipe on the motor flange. The conducting paths are made of stamped conductor rails (73, 75, 77, 79) which are fixed on the support plate (65), concentrically to the hub (67).
