  • Patent number: 4914186
Abstract: In order to achieve good results during the continuous recovery of organic polymers from solutions or emulsions thereof, even if there are irregularities due to variations in operation, and to ensure a minimum residual content of solvent in the polymer, a two-component nozzle is used, from whose inner duct the solution or emulsion is injected at an angle .beta. to the nozzle axis and from whose outer duct a vapor jet issues at an angle .alpha. which is between 1.degree. and 90.degree. greater than the angle .beta., the vapor jet breaking the jet of solution or emulsion into many small particles and wherein injection takes place in a vessel which is filled with a liquid which is immiscible with the solution or emulsion, in particular water.

  • Patent number: 4588809
Abstract: The invention relates to an improved process for isolating pulverulent chlorinated aliphatic polymers from their aliphatic chlorohydrocarbon solutions by introducing a mixture of steam and special solvent into said solutions, removing the aliphatic chlorohydrocarbon by steam distillation, and isolating the chlorinated polymer in the customary manner as a solid. The process produces a product which is practically free (.ltoreq.20 ppm) of toxic aliphatic chlorohydrocarbons and can be safely used in paints, adhesives or printing inks.

  • Patent number: 4430483
Abstract: The invention relates to a process for the production of a chlorinated polymer having a chlorine content of from 30 to 70% by weight, which comprises chlorinating a polymer in a chlorinated hydrocarbon solvent, removing the solvent using steam and/or hot water in the presence of at least 1% by weight, based on the chlorinated polymer, of an alkoxylation product of 1 mole of a primary aliphatic alcohol containing at least 8 carbon atoms and at least 1.5 moles of propylene oxide and drying the precipitated chlorinated polymer.

  • Patent number: 4206093
Abstract: A process for the preparation of chlorinated aliphatic polymers wherein chlorine-free polymers are chlorinated by using gaseous chlorine in chlorinated hydrocarbons as solvents and the chlorinated aliphatic polymers are recovered from the chlorinating solution by steam distillation in which process from 15 to 50% by weight of a lacquer resin is added to the chlorinating solution before steam distillation. The chlorinated polymers contain less residual solvent.

  • Patent number: 4165431
Abstract: A chlorinated colorless polyolefin, preferably a chlorinated colorless isotactic polypropylene, soluble in carbon tetrachloride and having a chlorine content of from 60% to 70% by weight and an average degree of polymerization of from 2000 to 6000, produced by chlorinating polyolefins having a degree of polymerization of from 2000 to 20,000 in suspension or solution or in suspension and solution at 40 to 60.degree. C. in the presence of a halogen transfer agent, a chlorination catalyst and from 0.2 to 0.5% by weight, based on polyolefin, of at least one compound corresponding to the general Formula (I):h.sub.2 n--r--nh>.sub.n H (I)in which R represents the ethylene, propylene or butylene group and n=1-6.

  • Patent number: 4144203
Abstract: A process for the preparation of a chlorinated aliphatic polymer which comprises chlorinating a chlorine-free aliphatic polymer in a chlorinated hydrocarbon solvent using gaseous chlorine as the chlorinating agent; adding from 2 to 25% by weight, based on the chlorinated polymer, of at least one plasticizer and/or at least one lacquer resin, to the chlorination solution; and isolating the chlorinated aliphatic polymer from the chlorination solution by steam distillation.
