Patent number: 10085302Abstract: An access node for a telecommunications network is partitioned into a front end unit and a back end unit coupled by an internet protocol (IP) packet based communication link to provide for data and control packets to be sent between the back end unit and the front end unit. The front end unit performs physical layer and media access layer (MAC) sublayer processing for data for transmission to/from user equipment in the network using baseband processing units that perform highly parallel floating/fixed point operations. The back end unit includes a plurality of general purpose processors to provide data link layer and network layer processing. back end portions may be pooled to provide greater efficiency.Type: GrantFiled: September 15, 2017Date of Patent: September 25, 2018Assignees: AT&T Mobility II LLC, AT&T Intellectual Property I, L.P.Inventors: Dimas R. Noriega, Arthur R. Brisebois, Giuseppe De Rosa, Henry J. Fowler, Jr.

Patent number: 9730098Abstract: Joint provisioning of cell sector capacity (CSC) and a defined customer service level (CSL) is provided utilizing a knowledge discovery and data mining-assisted multi-radio access technology controller. For example, Strategic Performance Indexes, CSC and CSL, are identified. The relationships between CSC, CSL, ergodic channel capacity (ECC) and an interface load (IL) for a radio network (RN) (or cell sector of an RN) are determined. Extensive information associated with the RN is collected and neural networks analysis is employed to reduce the information to a manageable set including the specific information associated with ECC and IL. The reduced set of information is mapped to ECC and IL using eigenvalue analysis, and the relationships between the ECC, IL, CSC and CSL are employed to determine the CSC and CSL for the RN (or cell sector of the RN). Network assignments and/or parameters can be updated based on the results.Type: GrantFiled: November 25, 2013Date of Patent: August 8, 2017Assignee: AT&T MOBILITY II LLCInventor: Dimas R. Noriega

Patent number: 9544842Abstract: Concepts and technologies are described herein for a network-based radio access control. According to one aspect disclosed herein, a radio access technology selection system enables an intelligent multi-radio access control that can select one or more radio access technologies that is best-suited for one or more target mobile devices based upon network conditions, policies, user profiles, and/or other information. The radio access technology selection system also informs the target mobile device(s) of one or more networks that utilize the selected radio access technology. In this manner, the radio access technology selection system can steer traffic to various networks operating in accordance with different radio access technologies to improve user experience, especially in network traffic congested areas, and to efficiently leverage network resources for mobile telecommunications and WI-FI networks.Type: GrantFiled: December 6, 2012Date of Patent: January 10, 2017Assignees: AT&T Intellectual Property I, L.P., AT&T Mobility II LLCInventors: Zhi Cui, Alan Blackburn, Dimas R.
