  • Patent number: 10527065
Abstract: The present disclosure relates to a variable pressure vessel. The vessel includes a liquid chamber and a gas chamber and a moveable barrier therebetween. The vessel has a volume, a first stroke, and a second stroke. The liquid chamber and the gas chamber each have a variable volume that changes responsive to the first stroke and the second stroke. The gas chamber has an outer wall wherein at least a portion of the outer wall is thermally conductive and allows heat to transfer therethrough. Movement of the moveable barrier between the liquid chamber and the gas chamber causes the volume in the liquid chamber and the volume in the gas chamber to displace each other. The volume in the gas chamber plus the volume in the liquid chamber is generally constant and generally equals the volume in the variable pressure vessel.

  • Publication number: 20170067454
Abstract: A hydraulic energy flow conversion device is for use in association with a compressed air storage unit and an input device. The input device is for inputting mechanical energy. The hydraulic energy flow conversion device includes a first hydraulic cylinder and a means for decreasing the displacement rate during the compression cycle. The first hydraulic cylinder includes a first hydraulic piston and has a compression cycle, an expansion cycle and a displacement rate. The first hydraulic cylinder is operably connected to the compressed air storage unit. The first hydraulic piston is operably connected to the input device. The energy input device may be a wind turbine.

  • Publication number: 20150330419
Abstract: The present disclosure is related to a method of pseudo-isothermal energy conversion between mechanical and pneumatic energy comprising the steps of: providing a gas/liquid unit wherein the gas/liquid unit may be a compression unit filled with gas and a liquid storage unit containing liquid, the compression unit having thermally conductive walls; compressing the gas by pumping the liquid into the compression unit via a liquid pump and producing compressed gas; concurrently transferring the heat created during the compression step through the walls of the compression unit; and transferring the compressed gas into a compressed gas storage unit and thereby storing energy in the form of pneumatic energy of a compressed gas.

  • Patent number: 7572546
Abstract: The present invention discloses a new type of biofuel cell, based on the microbial regeneration of the oxidant, ferric ions. The bio-fuel cell is based on the cathodic reduction of ferric to ferrous ions, coupled with the microbial regeneration of ferric ions by the oxidation of ferrous ions, with fuel (such as hydrogen) oxidation on the anode. The microbial regeneration of ferric ions is achieved by chemolithotrophic microorganisms such as Acidithiobacillus ferroxidans. Electrical generation is coupled with the consumption of carbon dioxide from atmosphere and its transformation into microbial cells, which can be used as a single-cell protein.
