  • Patent number: 6607333
Abstract: A cutting tool assembly (20), for example ball nose end mill, having a single replaceable cutting insert (24, 100, 106) clamped between two clamping jaws (34, 32) having clamping surfaces (50, 42) with geometries complementary to those of the clamping surfaces (66, 64) of the cutting insert. In an end view of the cutting tool assembly, the clamping surfaces (50, 42) of the clamping jaws (34, 32) are at least partially convex and the insert clamping surfaces (66, 64) are concave. The cutting insert is secured in position by means of a clamping screw (26) that passes through through bores (44, 118) in the clamping jaws and in the cutting insert. When the cutting insert is clamped between the clamping jaws the side cutting edges of the cutting insert are provided with adequate support and are accurately radially located.

  • Patent number: 5863156
Abstract: A cutting tool assembly including a cutter body having a cutting unit receiving pocket for releasably receiving a cutting unit with an operative cutting edge and an abutment surface remote therefrom. An elongated bore adapted for receiving an adjustment device is formed in the cutter body, the bore opening into the receiving pocket adjacent the abutment surface. The adjustment device includes an elongated tubular adjustment member having a longitudinally directed adjustment surface inclined with respect to its longitudinal axis, and an elongated adjustment screw initially slidingly extending through the adjustment member. The adjustment member is secured on the adjustment screw such that upon screwing the adjustment screw in a given direction, the adjustment member pushes the cutting unit outward.

  • Patent number: 5718540
Abstract: An exchangeable cutting insert adapted for mounting in a cutter tool body for use, in particular, in combined face and periphery milling operations. The cutting insert is a substantially prismoidal body having a planar base and an upper surface with rake portions merging with side flanks of the insert at least at two cutting edges defining therebetween an insert corner. The insert corner has a bisector plane perpendicular to the base of the insert. Each cutting edge comprises a central portion and first and second lateral portions sloping with respect to the base of the insert, the corner being associated with adjoining first and second lateral portions of the adjacent cutting edges.
