  • Patent number: 12290258
Abstract: Apparatus and methods are provided for performing a medical procedure, such as a laparoscopic appendectomy or tubal ligation, using a stapler apparatus including a handle portion including a shaft include proximal and distal ends, an end effector attached to the distal end of the shaft of the handle carrying one or more staples, and an imaging sleeve carried on the shaft. For example, the end effector may include first and second jaws movable relative to one another between open and closed positions, the first jaw carrying a cartridge which includes the one or more staples. The end effector is introduced into a patient's body, tissue is positioned/locked between the jaws, and a plurality of staples are deployed into the tissue.

  • Publication number: 20240180582
Abstract: A laparoscopic instrument includes fluid carrying channels incorporated into lateral aspects of jaws of the instrument and extending to outlets adjacent distal tips of the jaws, fluid carrying channels incorporated into a shaft of the instrument, and flexible fluid carrying channels connecting the distal ends of the shaft channels with the proximal end of respective jaw channels. An actuator on the device handle controls either delivery of fluid jets emanating lateral to tissue grasped between the instrument jaws or suction from the distal tips of the jaws to remove fluid in the vicinity of the jaws. The fluid jets perform atraumatic tissue dissection lateral to the structures grasped by the jaws, while the grasping jaws provide counter traction while conducting soft tissue hydro-dissection, by stabilizing the tissue in a direction opposite to the force exerted by the hydro-dissection fluid jets.

  • Patent number: 11925347
Abstract: Apparatus and methods are provided for performing a medical procedure, such as a laparoscopic appendectomy using a stapler apparatus including a reusable handle portion including a shaft include proximal and distal ends, a disposable end effector attached to the distal end of the shaft of the reusable handle carrying one or more staples. For example, the end effector may include first and second jaws movable relative to one another between open and closed positions, the first jaw carrying a cartridge which includes the one or more staples. A Doppler sensor, a cutting element, and, optionally, a thermal element are also provided on the end effector. The end effector is introduced into a patient's body, tissue is positioned/locked between the jaws, and a plurality of staples are deployed into the tissue. The Doppler sensor is used to confirm that blood flow has discontinued in the stapled tissue, and the cutting element is actuated to sever the stapled tissue.

  • Publication number: 20210007877
Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for mitigating and/or preventing a hernia using a wearable device worn by a user such that an output device is positioned at a predetermined location corresponding to a target hernia mitigation site on the user's body. One or more physical parameters of the user are monitored to identify when the user is about to perform a predetermined physical activity, and the output device is activated to provide an output to mitigate a hernia or prevent a hernia from occurring at the mitigation site when the predetermined activity is performed.
