    Abstract: A method of in situ hybridization (ISH) between nucleic acid or polyamide nucleic acid probes and chromosomal nucleic acid targets is taught, as well as, a kit for perform the method. In the inventive method the chromosomal nucleic acid targets are detected without any chemical or physical pretreatment of the chromosomal nucleic acid targets. In addition, the hybridization medium is to be substantially free of denaturants and the hybridization step is to be performed in the absence of catalytically effective amounts of enzymes.
