  • Patent number: 6566314
Abstract: An aqueous foam producing personal cleansing composition is disclosed. The composition, which is normally clear and is essentially free of any amides of diethanolamine, comprises a cloud point depressing agent comprising ammonium chloride. The composition of the present invention is characterized by a low cloud point temperature such that the risk of forming an undesirable precipitate in the composition is reduced. Also disclosed is a method of reducing the cloud point temperature in a normally clear aqueous personal cleansing composition which is essentially free of amides of diethanolamine. The method comprises adding ammonium chloride to the composition.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: October 13, 2000
Date of Patent: May 20, 2003
    Assignee: Alberto-Culver Company
Inventors: Usha V. Murthy, Dipak K. Ghosh, Randy Schueller

  • Patent number: 6187303
Abstract: An aqueous hair conditioning composition is disclosed. The composition includes stearalkonium chloride and a stabilizing component comprising a polyoxyethylene glycol ether of stearyl alcohol, such as, for example, polyoxyethylene (21) stearyl ether. The polyoxyethylene stearyl ether is provided in an amount sufficient to inhibit precipitation of stearalkonium chloride in the composition. Also disclosed are a method of conditioning hair and a method of inhibiting precipitation of a stearalkonium chloride in an aqueous cosmetic hair conditioning composition.

  • Patent number: 4939179
Abstract: An aqueous cosmetic emulsion is provided that includes an isoparaffin and an alkyl phosphate salt wherein the relative ratio of isoparaffin to alkyl phosphate sale ranges from about 40:1 to 1:1. The combination of isoparaffin with alkyl phosphate salt provides an unexpected thickening effect and results in a non-greasy product relative to a mineral oil bearing formula.
