  • Patent number: 8168219
Abstract: Tablets of a pharmaceutical, nutritional or vitamin active compound or composition, e.g. a poorly compressible drug are made by direct compression using a synergistic binder composition of co-processed (a) copolymer of vinylpyrrolidone (VP) and vinyl acetate (VA) and (b) microcrystalline cellulose (MCC), in a wt. ratio of (a):(b) of 1-30:99-70, which is spray dried to provide a readily compressible excipient binder powder for such active. The tablets obtained herein have advantageous hardness and friability at an acceptable compression force.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: November 30, 2005
Date of Patent: May 1, 2012
    Assignee: ISP Investments Inc.
Inventors: Rama Haldar, Dipan B. Ray, Timothy G. Bee, Sidney Etienne, Su-Jane Cheng
  • Publication number: 20100104656
Abstract: A low melting binder composition for preparation of pharmaceutical tablets and/or granules which comprises a polymer and a hydrophobic meltable binder.
    Type: Application
    Filed: March 19, 2008
    Publication date: April 29, 2010
Inventors: Paul Wan Sia Heng, Wai See Cheong, Zhi Hui Loh, Dipan B. Ray, Rama Haldar, Yolande Anthony
  • Patent number: 7704528
Abstract: Tablets of a poorly compressible drug are made by direct compression using a binder composition which is a polymer, preferably a copolymer of polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) and vinyl acetate (VA), having a defined glass transition temperature (Tg), admixed with a plasticizer, e.g. an organic ester or polyol, which reduces the Tg of the copolymer by at least 10° C. The binder composition and the drug are directly compressed into a tablet of predetermined hardness and friability, and at an acceptable compression force.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: August 15, 2003
Date of Patent: April 27, 2010
    Assignee: ISP Investments Inc.
Inventors: Rama Haldar, John Zamora, Dipan B. Ray, William Drefko, Greg Dubrowny, Sidney Etienne
  • Patent number: 7534381
Abstract: A process and apparatus for forming agglomerates of a powder composition of an active and binder such as a homopolymer or copolymer which includes passing the composition through a hot roller compactor to heat said binder material above its glass transition temperature.
