  • Publication number: 20060168095
Abstract: A system and method for multi-modal information delivery is disclosed herein. The method involves receiving a first user request at a browser module operative in accordance with a first protocol applicable to a first mode of information delivery. The method further includes generating a browsing request in response to the first user request, wherein the browsing request identifies information available within a network. Multi-modal content is then created on the basis of the information identified by the browsing request and provided to the browser module. The multi-modal content is formatted in compliance with the first protocol and incorporates a reference to content formatted in accordance with a second protocol applicable to a second mode of information delivery.

  • Patent number: 7054818
Abstract: Multi-modal system which enables documents to be interpreted as either or both of voice browser-based documents and/or visual browser-based documents for a thin client such as a portable telephone. Special techniques and additions are added into the document to enable the document to be converted between voice markup and visual markup languages. In addition, the document can be simultaneously viewed in both of the voice markup and the visual markup languages. Special techniques are used to allow keeping track of the browsing position within this document.

  • Publication number: 20060107213
Abstract: Motion is used as an input to a program running on a mobile device. The mobile device may require input also from alphanumeric or text input device. The motion can be used for items such as selection from a list, or navigation on the map. The motion can be sensed on image processing the output of the camera, or can be directly determine using an accelerometer. Existing programs can be explicitly modified, in which case the program accepts the motion directly. Alternatively, the modification can be implicit—where the motion is converted to a signal that the program can accept, without modification.

  • Publication number: 20060064499
Abstract: A method for retrieving content from one or more remote information sources is disclosed herein. The inventive method contemplates transmitting a user request over a communication link to a voice browser operative in accordance with a voice-based protocol. In response, a browsing request identifying a remote information source corresponding to the user request is generated. Content formatted in accordance with a predefined protocol is then retrieved from the remote information source in accordance with the browsing request. The retrieved content is converted into a file of information formatted in compliance with the voice-based protocol. A response is provided to the user request on the basis of the file of converted information.

  • Patent number: 6892067
Abstract: A mobile phone utilizes a script based user interface. The script is stored in memory of the phone and is adapted to cause a browser to utilize one of a plurality of internal features in order to perform a function, and to display a user interface for the function on the display of the phone. Information is transferred between mobile communication devices by organizing the information as a script. The mobile communication device processes the script and performs a function prescribed by the script when it is received. In a method of real-time wireless communication, a WML script defining a user interface is sent from a first mobile device to a second mobile device. A data file is set up in the second device in response to the WML script information. Real-time script information is then repeatedly sent from the first device to the second device. The user interface is displayed on the second device and a function is performed in response to the real-time script information.

  • Publication number: 20040214555
Abstract: A system for controlling of multiple kinds of modality in wireless telephones. A client controls modality on telephones which do not support simultaneous modality. This is done by suspending a browser when a voice command is detecting, storing the state of the browser, and then automatically restarting the browser when necessary. Another aspect operates in a simultaneous modality system and sends a context sensitive vocabulary to a voice server. This enables improved performance from multimodality, and also minimizes the amount of latency.

  • Patent number: 6766163
Abstract: A communication system and method for communicating teletext information to mobile stations. A wireless access protocol (WAP) server is coupled to a television station and receives a signal which includes teletext information from the station. The WAP server includes a teletext decoder which decodes the teletext information in the transmitted signal. The decoded information is stored in memory using a server controller. The controller receives information requests from a network interface coupled to the mobile stations. The controller accesses the teletext information stored in memory and transmits the information to the mobile station through the network interface.
