Patent number: 12250794Abstract: A data center in an environment has modules. Each module has a housing and an air mover. The housing contains processing devices that generate heat during operation. Each module has an air inlet on a first side of the housing and receives air from the environment. Each module also has an air outlet on a second side of the housing to exhaust air from the housing. At least three modules are spaced apart to form lateral spaces between adjacent modules. The modules form an interior region to receive the exhausted air of the modules. Each air mover generates a pressure differential between a top portion of the interior region and a bottom portion of the interior region using the exhausted air. The lateral spaces reduce the pressure differential between the top portion of the interior region and the bottom portion of the interior region.Type: GrantFiled: March 28, 2024Date of Patent: March 11, 2025Assignee: Soluna Holdings, Inc.Inventors: Nicholaus Ray Lancaster, Dipul Patel

Patent number: 11974415Abstract: A data center configured to be positioned in an environment (e.g., an open space) has a plurality of modules. Among other things, each module has a housing forming an interior configured to contain a plurality of processing devices that generate heat during operation. To manage the temperature within the interior, each module has an air inlet configured to receive air from the environment, and an air outlet configured to exhaust air from the housing. At least three of the modules are spaced apart to form at least one lateral space between adjacent modules. The plurality of modules preferably are arranged so that the at least three modules form an interior region configured to receive the exhaust air of the at least three modules.Type: GrantFiled: July 18, 2022Date of Patent: April 30, 2024Assignee: Soluna Holdings, Inc.Inventors: Nicholaus Ray Lancaster, Dipul Patel

Publication number: 20230387689Abstract: A data center has a distribution network and a control system. The control system receives substation meter data, distributed energy resource (DER) meter data, and receive data center meter data. The control system selects a data center operating mode using the substation meter data, the DER meter data, and the data center meter data. The control system then adjusts power consumption of the distribution network based on the selected the data center operating mode.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 1, 2023Publication date: November 30, 2023Inventors: Phillip Ng, John Belizaire, Dipul Patel, Mohamed Larbi Loudiyi

Publication number: 20230209779Abstract: A data center including a housing forming an interior. The interior includes an air intake chamber, a plurality of computing devices, an exhaust chamber, and a thermal baffle. The thermal baffle is positioned between the air intake chamber and the exhaust chamber. The thermal baffle includes openings corresponding to computing devices and openings corresponding to coverings. The coverings restrict airflow from the exhaust chamber to the air intake chamber by way of the thermal baffle.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 23, 2022Publication date: June 29, 2023Applicant: Soluna Computing, Inc.Inventors: Nicholaus Ray Lancaster, Dipul Patel

Patent number: 9854335Abstract: A method of and system for automatically adjusting airflow is presented. A system includes a controlled supply register that has an airflow adjusting mechanism that controls an aperture through which air passes and a register sensor that senses a value of an environmental variable in system duct work. The register also includes a communication system and a processor system that controls the airflow adjusting mechanism. The system also includes a sensor platform that senses an environmental variable in a space and transmits and receives information. The system also includes a controller that receives information about the environmental variables and a desired set point for the environmental variable in the space. The controller determines a target airflow to achieve the desired set point and transmits information about the target airflow. The register receives information about the target airflow and controls the register adjusting mechanism to achieve the target airflow.Type: GrantFiled: April 29, 2014Date of Patent: December 26, 2017Assignee: EcoVent Systems Inc.Inventors: Dipul Patel, Nicholaus Ray Lancaster

Patent number: 9723380Abstract: A method of and system for automatically adjusting airflow and sensors for use therewith are disclosed. A sensor assembly includes a first face on an opposite side of the sensor assembly relative to a second face. The assembly includes an electrical plug on the first face and an electrical outlet on the second face. The electrical outlet is of a same type that is complimentary to the electrical plug on the first face. The assembly includes a sensor for sensing a value of an environmental variable in a space and a sensor communication system for transmitting and receiving information. A sensor system includes a plurality of sensor assemblies disposed in a building. Each sensor assembly includes a sensor for sensing a value of an environmental variable of the space within which the sensor is placed. The system determines gradient values for the sensed environmental variable.Type: GrantFiled: April 29, 2014Date of Patent: August 1, 2017Assignee: ecoVent Corp.Inventors: Dipul Patel, Nicholaus Ray Lancaster
