  • Patent number: 10525659
Abstract: A vehicle component has at least one sandwich part which forms a crash element that absorbs kinetic energy. The at least one sandwich part has a layer structure of at least two fiber-reinforced and one synthetic resin matrix-containing cover layer elements and at least one core layer element provided between two adjacent cover layer elements. The at least one core layer element has channels which pass transversely through each cover layer element and/or the core layer element. The at least one core layer element is made of a hard foam material or a softwood, and the channels provided in the core layer element form predetermined breaking points for the core layer element.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: September 11, 2017
Date of Patent: January 7, 2020
    Assignee: Bayerische Motoren Werke Aktiengesellschaft
    Inventor: Dirk Lukaszewicz

  • Patent number: 9718495
Abstract: A structural element in the front region of a motor vehicle is arranged between an engine subframe and a bulkhead of the motor vehicle. The structural element has a deformation element which is fastened via a front fixing to the engine subframe and a rear fixing to the bulkhead. The front fixing is connected via an upper shell and a lower shell to the bulkhead in such a way that the two shells form a closed, funnel-shaped structure with one another.

  • Publication number: 20160288836
Abstract: A body for a motor vehicle includes a side member, which is made from a fiber-reinforced plastic composite, and a deformation element. The deformation element is designed such that it can absorb collision energy in a low relative speed range of the motor vehicle through fracture. The side member is designed such that it can absorb collision energy in a high relative speed range of the motor vehicle through brittle fracture. A side member start-of-fracture force level, at which the side member first starts to fracture, is greater than a side member mean fracture force level, at which the side member goes on to fracture. A deformation element start-of-fracture force level, at which the deformation element first starts to fracture, and a deformation element mean fracture force level, at which the deformation element goes on to fracture, are lower than the side member start-of-fracture force level.

  • Publication number: 20160059904
Abstract: A crash structure is provided for a vehicle. The crash structure includes at least two carriers produced of fiber-reinforced plastic, and at least one planar element produced of fiber-reinforced plastic. The planar element is connected to both carriers to avoid buckling of the carrier in the event of a crash.
