  • Patent number: 6539914
Abstract: An internal combustion engine is provided with an injection valve with which fuel can be injected directly into a combustion chamber either during a compression phase in a first operating mode or during an intake phase in a second operating mode. In addition, a control unit is provided for shifting between the two operating modes and for differentiated control and/or regulation of the performance quantities that influence the actual torque of the internal combustion engine as a function of a setpoint torque in both operating modes. A change in the actual torque during a shifting operation is determined by the control unit, and at least one of the performance quantities is influenced by the control unit as a function thereof.

  • Patent number: 6531874
Abstract: A method of determining the charge status of a battery, in particular an automotive battery, comprising the following steps: determining a first battery charge status socU0 on the basis of a measurement of the no-load voltage of the battery, determining a second battery charge status soci on the basis of integration of a battery current over time, and forming a weighted average from battery charge states socU0 and soci thus determined, to obtain an average battery charge status soc.

  • Patent number: 6446596
Abstract: An internal combustion engine in for a motor vehicle in (1) is described. The internal combustion engine (1) has an injection valve with which fuel can be injected directly into a combustion chamber either during a compression phase in a first operating mode or during an intake phase in a second operating mode. In addition, a control unit is provided for shifting between the two operating modes and for differential control and/or regulation of the performance quantities that influence the actual moment of the internal combustion engine in both operating modes as a function of a setpoint moment. A change in the actual moment during a shifting operation is determined by the control unit and at least one of the performance quantities is influenced by the control unit as a function thereof.

  • Patent number: 6302081
Abstract: An internal combustion engine, in particular for a motor vehicle, is described. The internal combustion engine is equipped with an injection valve with which fuel can be injected directly into a combustion chamber either, in a first operating mode, during a compression phase or, in a second operating mode, during an intake phase. Also provided is a control device for switching between the two operating modes and for differing open-loop and/or closed-loop control, in the two operating modes, of the operating variables influencing the actual torque of the internal combustion engine as a function of a reference torque. A change in the actual torque during a switchover is operation is detected by the control device and as a function thereof, at least one of the operating variables is influenced by the control device.

  • Patent number: 6250286
Abstract: A method and a device for driving at least one solenoid valve used for controlling the injection of fuel into an internal combustion engine. At the start of the driving (activation), the solenoid valve is supplied with a booster voltage that is elevated as compared to that used for the further driving. The energy and/or power output received by the solenoid valve at the start of the driving is able to be influenced as a function of the operating state of the internal combustion engine.

  • Patent number: 6234140
Abstract: A method for operating an internal combustion engine especially of a motor vehicle is described wherein fuel is injected directly into the combustion chamber either in a first operating mode during a compression phase or in a second operating mode during an induction phase. The fuel mass (mK), which is to be injected into the combustion chamber, is determined in both modes of operation, inter alia, in dependence upon a computed desired torque (Mdes) which is to be outputted by the engine. An injection duration (ti in ms) is determined from the fuel mass (mK) which is to be injected. Then, an injection angle (&agr;i in degrees) is determined from the injection duration (ti in ms) in dependence upon the rpm (nmotor) of the engine (1) Finally, the fuel is injected into the combustion chamber during the injection angle (&agr;i in degrees).

  • Patent number: 6209521
Abstract: A fuel-supply system for an internal combustion engine, particularly of a motor vehicle. The fuel-supply system is provided with a pump for delivering fuel into a storage chamber and for producing a pressure in the storage chamber. In addition, provision is made for a pressure sensor for measuring an actual value of the pressure in the storage chamber, as well as a pressure-control valve for influencing the pressure in the storage chamber. A control unit is provided with means by which the pressure in the storage chamber is controllable to a setpoint value. In addition, the control unit is provided with means by which the closed-loop control of the pressure in the storage chamber is able to be superseded by an open-loop control.
