  • Publication number: 20100297045
Abstract: The invention relates to effect pigments comprising artificial platelet-shaped substrates which have at least one optically active coating, where the effect pigments have a volume-averaged cumulative undersize distribution curve with the characteristic numbers D10, D50 and D90, said cumulative undersize distribution curve having a span ?D of 0.7-1.4, and the span ?D being calculated in accordance with formula (I): ?D=(D90?D10)/D50??(I), and the average thickness of the artificial platelet-shaped substrates being 500 nm to 2000 nm.

  • Publication number: 20100152355
Abstract: The invention relates to metallic effect pigments having a plateletlike metal core and, surrounding the plateletlike metal core, a homogeneous synthetic resin coating, the synthetic resin coating comprising polyacrylate and/or polymethacrylate and also organofunctional silane. The invention further relates to a process for preparing such metallic effect pigments, and to their use.

  • Publication number: 20100116169
Abstract: The present invention relates to an effect pigment comprising as a substrate a glass flake with a coating, said coating comprising at least one layer of at least one high refractive material, said material having a refractive index of at least 1.8, and/or at least one layer of at least one semitransparent metallic material, wherein said glass flakes comprising the following composition: 65-75 wt.-% silicon oxide, preferably SiO2 2-9 wt.-% aluminium oxide, preferably AI2O3 0.0-5 wt.-% calcium oxide, preferably CaO 5-12 wt.-% sodium oxide, preferably Na2O 8-15 wt.-% boron oxide, preferably B2O3 0.1-5 wt.-% titanium oxide, preferably TiO2 0.0-5 wt.-% zirconium oxide, preferably ZrO2 based on the weight of said glass flakes. The invention relates also to a method for producing the effect pigments as well as to the use of said effect pigments. The invention further relates to coating formulations based on the effect pigments.

  • Publication number: 20090056591
Abstract: The invention relates to weather-stable pearlescent pigments having improved application properties based on a glass flake coated with highly refractive metal oxides and having a protective coat on its top metal oxide layer. The pigments of the invention are characterized in that the glass flake exhibits an average thickness of from 50 nm to 500 nm, to which, according to a variant A, a metal oxide layer having a refractive index n greater than 1.8 and containing TiO2 having a rutile content of from 80% to 100% by weight and a protective coat of SiO2 are applied, or, according to a variant B, a metal oxide layer having a refractive index n greater than 1.
