    Abstract: The invention provides a method for the production of a supported nickel catalyst in which the support is prepared from mixed oxides preferentially comprising MgO, ZrO2, and combinations thereof, in which the support is precipitated or co-precipitated by an aqueous, alkali-metal containing aqueous solution. The resulting nickel catalyst has good activity for the reforming of methane, and shows good stability and resistance to deactivation due to carbon deposition.
