  • Patent number: 11840909
Abstract: A technique for providing a fluid conduit between a main bore and a substantially non-producing region of a fracture at a horizontal section of the bore. The technique includes forming a micro-tunnel from a location of the bore adjacent the fracture. The micro-tunnel may be directed at the non-producing region with a angled deflector or in a steerable manner. Additionally, the well may be configured with micro-tunneling at the outset or retrofitted with micro-tunnels as a manner of restoring production.

  • Patent number: 11466549
Abstract: A technique facilitates hydrocarbon fluid production. A well is formed in a subterranean region by drilling a borehole, e.g. a generally vertical wellbore. At least one tunnel is formed and oriented to extend outwardly from the borehole at least 10 feet into a formation surrounding the borehole. The orientation of the at least one tunnel is selected such that it extends at a desired angle with respect to a direction of horizontal stress in the formation. A fracture stimulation of the at least one tunnel is performed to create a network of fractures. The orientation of the at least one tunnel ensures that the network of fractures extends through a target zone in a hydrocarbon bearing region of the formation.

  • Publication number: 20210102453
Abstract: A technique facilitates enhanced hydrocarbon fluid production. A well is formed in a subterranean region by drilling a borehole, e.g. a wellbore, which has a lateral section. The lateral section may be located at least in part in a non-productive zone of the subterranean region. In cooperation with the lateral section, at least one tunnel is formed which intersects the lateral section and penetrates a productive zone containing hydrocarbon fluid. A plurality of tunnels may be formed to extend from the lateral section outwardly into the productive zone. A well stimulation, e.g. hydraulic fracturing, operation is performed through the tunnel(s) to stimulate a desired stimulation zone or zones within the productive zone.

  • Patent number: 9915137
Abstract: A method of fracturing multiple zones within a wellbore formed in a subterranean formation is carried out by forming flow-through passages in two or more zones within the wellbore that are spaced apart from each other along the wellbore. The flow-through passages are arranged into clusters, where the directions of all flow-through passages, which belong to the same cluster, are aligned within a single plane (cluster plane). At least one cluster of flow-through passages is formed in each zone. The clusters within each zone have characteristics different from those of other zones provided by orienting the cluster planes at different angles relative to principal in-situ stresses and by placing them into different locations along the wellbore in each of the two or more zones. A propellant pre-fracturing treatment is then performed in the two or more zones to create initial fractures (pre-fractures) in each of the two or more zones.
