  • Publication number: 20250003328
Abstract: A method for determining an inclination of a wellbore can include receiving sensor data at a rig controller, wherein the sensor data comprises sensor data from a radial magnetometer, a tangential magnetometer, a radial accelerometer, and a tangential accelerometer, determining, via the rig controller, a magnetic toolface angle of a BHA based on the sensor data from the radial magnetometer and the tangential magnetometer, converting, via the rig controller, the magnetic toolface angle to a gravity toolface of the BHA based on the sensor data from the radial accelerometer and the tangential accelerometer; and determining, via the rig controller, an inclination angle based on the gravity toolface, and the sensor data from the radial magnetometer and the tangential magnetometer and determining an azimuth angle based on mapping of the earth's magnetic field vector, the inclination angle, and a high side offset angle.

  • Patent number: 12168925
Abstract: A method for determining gravity toolface azimuth that can include rotating a logging tool about a center axis; positioning an accelerometer sensor within the logging tool at a first radial distance from the center axis; positioning an angular gyroscope sensor within the logging tool at a second radial distance from the center axis; receiving, at a controller, accelerometer sensor data from the accelerometer sensor and angular gyroscope sensor data from the angular gyroscope sensor as the logging tool rotates; determining, via the controller, a radial acceleration component of the accelerometer sensor from the accelerometer sensor data; determining, via the controller, a gain and an offset of the angular gyroscope sensor based on the radial acceleration component; and determining, via the controller, the gravity toolface azimuth of the logging tool as a function of time based on the gain, the offset, and the angular gyroscope sensor data.

  • Patent number: 11156735
Abstract: An embodiment of the present disclosure is an acoustic logging tool for determining a characteristic of a ground formation during a drilling operation. The acoustic logging tool includes a transmitter section that houses a transmitter that is configured to emit an acoustic signal and a receiver section spaced from the transmitter section along an axial direction. The receiver section includes a receiver that is configured to receive at least a portion of the acoustic signal. The acoustic logging tool also includes an isolator section positioned between the transmitter section and the receiver section along the axial direction.

    Assignee: APS Technology, Inc.
Inventors: Christopher S Funke, Jr., Carl Allison Perry, Sergei Knizhnik, Dmitry Avdeev, Michael Joyce
  • Patent number: 10684387
Abstract: Apparatus and methods are described for a side looking NMR tool for downhole geophysical analysis wherein a unique static field shape is provided by two magnets magnetized in two different directions. The tilted configuration of magnets and optimized value of the tilt angle provide, among other advantages, an elevation of the Signal-to-Noise-Ratio (SNR), an enriched content of the 1H NMR signal from rock formations by providing a wider span of gradients including higher gradients, a diminished level of undesired sodium 23Na signal, less tool energy consumption and a wider NMR beam.
