Abstract: Techniques are provided herein for optimizing boot order for devices in a data center environment. These techniques may be embodied as a method, apparatus and instructions in a computer-readable storage media to perform the method. A computing apparatus having connectivity to a network receives a service profile boot policy from a management device in the network. The service profile boot policy includes attributes identifying boot devices hosted by the computing apparatus. Data representing the service profile boot policy is stored and an order of boot devices hosted by the computing apparatus is generated. The order is generated according to the attributes of the service profile boot policy. Boot devices are excluded from the order according to the attributes of the service profile boot policy.

Abstract: Techniques presented herein provide approaches for generating a markup language object that describes a variety of BIOS setup variables and which allow the markup language object to be passed to the management system, as well as allow retrieval of a normalized BIOS from the management system. Doing so allows the management system to be used to easily and efficiently control a large number of server systems within a data center.

An example embodiment includes receiving first initialization data from a physical dual inline memory module (DIMM) and converting the first initialization data to second initialization data of a logical DIMM mapped to the physical DIMM. The example embodiment may further include programming a memory controller based on the second initialization data.

Abstract: Techniques are provided for authenticating a user when accessing a Basic Input/Output System (BIOS) of a computing device. Access request information is received. An access information database is queried to authenticate the access request information with access information stored in the access information database. Validation information is received, indicating whether the access request information is authenticated, and permission is granted for access to settings of the computing device if the validation information indicates that the access request information is authenticated.
