  • Patent number: 6804486
Abstract: An active steering system and method thereof include a drive source, a steering roller, a steering motor, a steering controller, a belt edge sensor, and a main controller. The steering roller adjusts a belt in a widthwise direction, which is rotated by the drive source. The steering motor drives the steering roller, and the steering controller controls the steering motor. The belt edge sensor detects a belt edge signal according to a position of the belt in the widthwise direction. The main controller controls the drive source and/or the steering controller where the belt is rotated based on a balance point at which an amount of change of at least one value of the belt edge signal and a step number of the steering motor is less than or equal to a predetermined value.

  • Patent number: 5905701
Abstract: A method for stabilizing track jump of a recording medium by which bumping of an object lens disposed in a sled against the sled's wall can be prevented during a track jump for accessing a desired track on a recording medium, in which tracking is turned off whenever the sled is kicked and the numbers of zero crossing of the track are counted by first turning off the sled, and alternately kicking the tracking and checking the zero crossing, until the zero crossing reaches a predetermined number.

  • Patent number: 5802023
Abstract: A circuit for uniformly controlling the velocity of a sled of a disk drive includes a circuit for converting a velocity to a frequency through a speed sensor used for driving the disk drive, a circuit for amplifying a voltage of the speed sensor to a stable value, a circuit for converting the frequency to a voltage variation value, a circuit for selecting and maintaining a maximum value of the voltage variation value, a circuit for forwardly/backwardly inverting the voltage variation value, and a circuit for carrying out subtraction between the inverted value and a shift control signal, with the result of the subtraction being applied to a drive circuit to minimize power consumption.

  • Patent number: 5764602
Abstract: A sled motor controlling method for shifting the position of an optical pickup a CD-ROM drive is disclosed. According to the inventive method, the number of tracks from an initial position of a pickup to a target position are counted. A timer interrupt, of a timer inside the CD-ROM, is enabled for acceleration to and rotation at constant speed of a sled motor which moves the pickup. The ennoblement of the timer interrupt is based on a number of reference clock pulses which correspond to the number of tracks to be traversed. A determination is made whether the pickup is approaching the target position. If it is determined that the pickup is approaching the target position, a timer interrupt is enabled for deceleration of the sled motor. Then, all timer interrupts are disabled if it is determined that the pickup has reached the target position.
