  • Patent number: 4624989
Abstract: Disclosed is a thermoplastic elastomer containing a cross-linked polyepihalohydrin rubber made by simultaneously cross-linking the rubber and blending the rubber with a crystalline polyolefin in the presence of a chlorinated hydrocarbon having a chlorine content of about 20% to about 70% by weight.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: January 31, 1986
Date of Patent: November 25, 1986
    Assignee: Hercules Incorporated
    Inventor: Dominic A. Berta
  • Patent number: 4616687
Abstract: Disclosed are vulcanized compositions of (1) from about 80% to about 99% of a rubber material selected from the group consisting of butyl rubber, halogenated butyl rubber having from about 1% to about 3% by weight of halogen and mixtures thereof, and (2) from about 1% to about 20% of a chlorinated hydrocarbon polymer having a chlorine content of from about 30% to about 70% by weight of chlorine, said composition having good impermeability to gases and tear resistance and being useful in tire inner tubes and inner liners.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: January 13, 1986
Date of Patent: October 14, 1986
    Assignee: Hercules Incorporated
    Inventor: Dominic A. Berta
  • Patent number: 4616686
Abstract: Disclosed are crosslinking compositions having both sulfur and nonsulfur curative systems which are particularly adapted for crosslinking rubber blends of (a) from about 35% to about 85% halobutyl rubber or a mixture of butyl rubber and halobutyl rubber wherein the halobutyl rubber is at least 50% by weight of the mixture and (b) from about 15% to about 65% of an epihalohydrin rubber, and the rubber materials crosslinked therewith. The rubber materials crosslinked with these crosslinking compositions have an excellent balance of cure rate, cure state and scorch safety; have improved tire carcass adhesion and good impermeability to gases; and are useful in tire inner tubes and inner liners.

  • Patent number: 4482681
Abstract: Halogen-containing polymers can be crosslinked by heat-curing with a crosslinking system made up of a crosslinking agent which is either a polymercaptan or an ester derivative thereof, a basic material and a hydrated salt. When the hydrated salt is chosen so that it releases its water of hydration during heat-curing the rate of crosslinking is enhanced.
