  • Patent number: 4877455
Abstract: Liquid, low viscosity, graft polyols comprising the liquid reaction product of a vegetable oil or unsaturated fatty carbon compound having at least eight carbon atoms, at least one hydroxyl group, and at least one double bond, said compound having other than terminal unsaturation a cyclopentadienyl compound and a terminally unsaturated monomer having at least one hydroxyl group, when cured with a polyisocyanate, melamine, or formaldehyde compound, or when esterified with a polybasic acid composition to form an alkyd resin, yield high solids or solventless polyurethane compositions useful as coatings, adhesives, potting or molding compounds.

  • Patent number: 4812533
Abstract: High viscosity or solid resins containing hydroxyl groups can be modified by esterification with ricinoleic acid to yield polyols having much lower viscosity, improved solubility in non-polar solvents, higher equivalent weights and essentially the same hydroxyl functionality of the unmodified resin. These new polyols or their mixture with other polyols can be reacted with solventless polyisocyanates to yield polyurethane compositions useful as adhesives, potting or molding compounds. Alternatively, they can be diluted with a small amount of appropriate solvents and reacted with polyisocyanate, melamine or urea-formaldehyde resins, or used in the preparation of alkyd resins, yield high solids coatings useful in a variety of applications, such as plastics, business machine parts, metals, wood and building materials such as concrete, bricks, cinder blocks and the like.

  • Patent number: 4664908
Abstract: A method for imparting non-comedogenicity to a cosmetic composition which comprises incorporating into a cosmetic composition a predetermined amount of an ester of ricinoleic acid to act as an emollient, said ricinoleic acid ester having the formula ##STR1## wherein: R.sub.1 is a straight or branched chain alkyl or alkenyl group having between one and 40 carbon atoms;R.sub.2 is hydrogen; ##STR2## connected to a straight or branched chain alkyl or alkenyl group having between one and 40 carbon atoms; or between one and 40 moles ethylene or propylene oxide; andthe total molecular weight of R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 is at least about 150, preferably greater than about 170.

  • Patent number: 4535142
Abstract: Low viscosity, high solids polyurethane coatings compositions are prepared from a diricinoleate derivate and an isocyanate or from a diricinoleate derivative, a high viscosity polyol, and an isocyanate. Also, a method for reducing the viscosity and increasing the solids content of a polyurethane coating by adding from about 1 to 99 percent by weight of a diricinoleate derivative to a hydroxyl bearing component before reacting with an isocyanate, and a method for preparing a polyurethane coating having a low viscosity suitable for spray coating applications by reacting a diricinoleate derivative with an isocyanate.

  • Patent number: 4332927
Abstract: The present invention is directed to improvements in non-cytotoxic polyurethane compositions. The improvement in the polyurethane compositions is achieved by reacting at least one NCO-terminated prepolymer and at least one polyol in the presence of a dialkyltin dicarboxylated catalyst composition. The catalyst reduces the curing time of the polyurethane resin and cannot be released therefrom. The improved polyurethane compositions are advantageously employed in separatory devices such as hollow fiber separatory devices intended to be used in biomedical applications. The separatory device employs at least one separatory membrane suitable for the intended end use application which is secured, potted or sealed in a housing using a cured flexible polyurethane composition.
