    Abstract: A LED retrofit lamp for replacement of fluorescent lamp or tube driven by fluorescent ballast is provided. The retrofit lamp is compatible with the fluorescent ballast that requires the presence of a barrier for striking an arc voltage. The present invention provides a strike barrier—a controllable barrier that does not allow current conduction until a threshold voltage is reached. When a current above the threshold voltage passes through the strike barrier, the circuit latches and allows conduction at normal voltage. The present invention also provides a circuit that replicates the cathode heater resistance of a fluorescent lamp to rapid start and programmed start ballast.

    Abstract: A retrofit LED lighting system with a combination of a directional downlight component and an indirect uplight component is provided. The system comprises light emitting diodes arranged so as to replicate the function of a legacy light source in a transparent or translucent fixture housing. The LED lamp includes upwards facing LEDs emitting light upwards, and a translucent stem covering the uplight LEDs to allow the light from the LEDs to pass through it. Advantageously, the LED lamp with uplight component and a transparent/translucent stem allows the light to be directed upwards and hence, avoids having a sharp cut-off of light appearing in the middle of the reflector fixture and also avoids a lack of uplight shone on the ceiling.

    Abstract: A light emitting diode retrofit lamp for replacement of fluorescent lamp or tube driven by fluorescent ballast is provided. The retrofit lamp consists of an enhanced circuit that overcomes the compatibility issues with the fluorescent ballasts. The circuit of the retrofit lamp comprises a deflickerizer circuit that prevents the flicker in the lamp when the lamp operates in the frequency range of 0.1 Hz to 60 Hz. The deflickerizer circuit further provides a method to align frequency with the ballast frequency and maintains phase to avoid low frequency interference.

The LED lamp operates at two different modes, offered by the dual mode PCB circuit. In one of the mode, namely ANSI ballast testing, a low frequency current from the ballast is throttled through a bypass circuit to LEDs, since a field effect transistor of the circuit is in open circuit mode due to insufficient current. During the second mode, namely field ballast operation, a high frequency current is provided by the ballast, which short circuits the FET, causing it to conduct and thus operating the LEDs. Advantageously, the LED lamp offers maximum compatibility with ballasts using such dual mode circuit and consumes less power.

    Abstract: The present invention provides an improved lighting system, for an LED lamp, with built-in intelligence and a controlling unit. The controlling unit comprises one or more field effect transistors and a microcontroller. The microcontroller creates a pulse width modulated signal at a frequency of approximately 120 Hz-50 kHz to field effect transistors. Further, the field effect transistors are connected in series with the LED lamp so that the microcontroller modulates a switching power converter, in addition to modulating a parallel field effect transistor.
