  • Patent number: 11609470
Abstract: A writing device includes a liquid crystal layer including reflective cholesteric liquid crystal material. There are electrically conductive layers between which the liquid crystal layer is disposed. At least one of the electrically conductive layers includes at least two conductive sections. There is a front substrate that is flexible and a back substrate between which the electrically conductive layers and the liquid crystal layer are disposed. Neither the front substrate nor the back substrate includes separated sections. Application of pressure to the front substrate changes a reflectivity of a portion of the cholesteric liquid crystal material to form an image. In one aspect, there is electronic erase circuitry including at least one actuator that independently applies an erase voltage waveform to each of at least two of the conductive sections.

  • Patent number: 9851612
Abstract: A liquid crystal display with an identifier such as a watermark, serial number, logo or other graphic design, is disclosed. The identifiers can be read electronically or with the human eye. Methods are described for fabricating identifiers on cholesteric writing tablets in particular, with varying shades of gray and hence different degrees of visibility. The identifiers are permanent and not erased when a liquid crystal image on the display is erased.

  • Publication number: 20090287364
Abstract: An air traffic display aid and method that uses parameters for defining a heading for an alpha approach and a beta approach. These can be intersecting or converging runways, dependent or independent parallel runways or airways in en-route configurations. A target reference point is determined in dependence upon the alpha and beta approaches. And an image reference point is determined in dependence upon at least one of the target reference point, a difference between the headings, a characteristic of the beta approach and an offset. Single target mirror ghosting, in-trail ghosting on demand, associated configurations and user selectable resynchronization spacing is also supported.

  • Publication number: 20060225834
Abstract: An integrated system and method of integrating fluid dispensing technologies (e.g., direct-write (DW)) with rapid prototyping (RP) technologies (e.g., stereolithography (SL)) without part registration comprising: an SL apparatus and a fluid dispensing apparatus further comprising a translation mechanism adapted to translate the fluid dispensing apparatus along the Z-, Y- and Z-axes. The fluid dispensing apparatus comprises: a pressurized fluid container; a valve mechanism adapted to control the flow of fluid from the pressurized fluid container; and a dispensing nozzle adapted to deposit the fluid in a desired location. To aid in calibration, the integrated system includes a laser sensor and a mechanical switch. The method further comprises building a second part layer on top of the fluid deposits and optionally accommodating multi-layered circuitry by incorporating a connector trace.

  • Patent number: 6463705
Abstract: A container for a prefabricated building is disclosed. The container is formed from components of the prefabricated building. The container is built to substantially conform to standard shipping container sizes. Additional storage for some building components is preferably provided by attaching channel members to the top of the container. Supports and a covering for the additional storage space may be included. The additional storage space is preferably dimensioned to allow the container to substantially conform to standard shipping container sizes.

  • Patent number: 5582363
Abstract: A guard shield is provided as a protective security device in the cockpit of an aircraft to prevent instruments in the aircraft control panel from being removed by thieves. The guard shield is formed of a flat, laterally expansive, rigid plate with a pair of parallel slots defined in its lower edge. The slots extend upwardly into the interior of the plate and terminate in blind ends. The slots are laterally spaced from each other a distance equal to the distance of the separation of the steering columns for the steering yokes utilized by the pilot and copilot. The guard shield is mounted so as to rest upon the steering columns with the steering columns residing at the upper extremities of the slots in the blind ends thereof. A locking mechanism is employed to hold the guard shield closely adjacent to the surface of the instrument control panel, so as to prevent the removal of instruments therefrom.

  • Patent number: 5341833
Abstract: A tire valve cap for a flush mounted tire valve seals the tire valve against external debris and internal leakage. Slits in the wall of the cap allow the cap to act like a spring after insertion and to permit any internal leakage to intensify the sealing properties of the cap to the valve.
