  • Patent number: 6626454
Abstract: A suspension system for supporting a trailer frame on a trailer axle is provided. The suspension system includes a connector disposed about the trailer axle and upper and lower arms. The upper and lower arms are each coupled to the frame and to the connector. The upper arm is coupled to the connector at a point between the axle and the longitudinal rails of the frame. The lower arm is coupled to the connector at a point between the axle and ground. The upper and lower arms together form a Watt's linkage that minimizes and/or eliminates movement of the axle in the direction of vehicle travel.

  • Patent number: 6390244
Abstract: A brake wear indicator to provide visual and tactile indication of unacceptable brake wear. The brake wear indicator has a hub drive attached to a cam shaft, a brake wear disk attached to the hub drive and a body attached to a slack adjuster lever. The brake wear disk has a wear detector lug. The body has two the travel limit lugs which extend towards the centerline of the brake wear disk and are on the end of flexible fingers. When the brake linings are approaching unacceptable wear, the wear detector lug contacts one of the travel limit lugs and pushes the travel limit lug and the end of the corresponding finger away from the adjacent outer surface of the body. The rising of the end of the finger above the adjacent surface provides visual and tactile indication of unacceptable brake wear.

  • Patent number: 6047957
Abstract: A bushing for a vehicle suspension system has a hollow cylindrical sleeve and a hollow cylindrical jacket, with first and second elastomeric members compressively preloaded into an annular space between the sleeve and the jacket. The elastomeric members, which are complementary in filling the annular space, are selected from different materials possessing different spring rates. The elastomeric members are preferably semicircular radial sections of an annulus. When the bushing is aligned in the vehicle suspension, the bushing exhibits at least one diameter where the bushing effectively has a first spring rate when the bushing is acted on by a force in a first radial direction and exhibits a different spring rate when the bushing is acted upon by a force in a second radial direction which is one hundred eighty degrees opposed to the first radial direction.

  • Patent number: 5791743
Abstract: A device for stiffening an axle of a vehicle in the vicinity of a weld connecting the axle to a suspension beam of the vehicle has a cradle portion to be aligned along the axle. Radially extending flanges are attached along the side edges of the essentially semi-cylindrical cradle portion. The flanges provide a site for apertures for the conventional U-bolts which connect the axle to the suspension beam. In an alternate embodiment, the ends of the device are further stiffened by the addition of webs mounted transverse to the axis of the cradle portion. If the webs are paired at each end in a spaced apart relationship, they can provide a site for use of additional U-bolts to affix the device to the axle. The cradle portion effectively covers one half of the circumference of the axle when in position.

  • Patent number: 5584527
Abstract: An improved semi-trailer panel assembly which offers the strength and durability of a standard "post and sheet panel" trailer as well as the lighter weight and increased cargo area which, until now, has only been associated with a "plate-type" trailer. Multiple rectangular panels having a generally corrugated design are placed side-by-side upon the side of a semi-trailer. Seam extrusion members, each having two elongated grooves, are positioned between adjacent panels whereby the side edges of these panels are inserted into the grooves and secured in place with a flexible adhesive; no bolts or rivets are necessary for this function.. Small connection clips are also provided which snap over the side edges of the panels and ensure the proper positioning of the panel edges within the grooves for adhesion purposes. The upper and lower edges of all panels and extrusion members are then secured with bolts or rivets to the upper and lower base rails, respectively, of the trailer frame.
